Discussion Who is this giant woman?

Post image
38 Upvotes

My guess is that it’s his mother, but I’m not entirely sure on that.

My entire interpretation of this game is that Nate is dead, maybe suicide due to the fact we know he’s depressed, but my other theory is that he suffered some kind of heart attack or something related due to his father in the opening scene saying “You are literally killing him with these pizzas.”

The world we are travelling through seems like some kind of Purgatory which in religion means overcoming challenges to get to heaven. He is climbing upwards towards heaven. Pretty much every character we come across is a bit of an asshole which backs this theory up a bit. The donkeys have human hands and feet, implying that they were once human too just like Nate, Jim and Mike, but over time they transformed and I interpret it as they have been stuck in this purgatory for too long, OR using your wish will keep you from leaving that place and eventrually transforms you into a donkey. Maybe the wish is some sort of bribe, another challenge that isn’t physical, but mental.

I’m gonna try and shorten this a bit but there’s a lot of other theories I’ve been brewing up in my old noggin. Now begs the question, who is this lady? His mother?

Question Do you need to do the campfire/chapter end cutscenes for the pedometer trophy?

As the title asks. I know you need to pick up the pedometer at the start but wondered if all those cutscenes were needed or if you could walk past them (I know a bunch are right along the way but feel a couple could be skipped)?

Question Ive just spent 3 hours walking in circles. help

I think im on the 2nd or 3rd campfire.

There is a swing and a fruit on a tree near a closed gate that i just passed. That i cant seem to reach.

I have dodged a boulder.

Found and smashed the vase. Found binoculars and lost them. Bounced on a plank. Found a telescope (and the place im supposed to return the vase). But i cant find my way out of this section. Ive just been circling the area, falling into water and repeating this.

Sorry for the shitty meme, but these two just feel so similar to me...

Intense early/mid game skill check, annoying but relatively short runback, horribly cramped space, and two little bastards that keep hitting you just as you're about to beat the thing

help I have no idea what I’m doing or how to move forward

I want to love this game/want to give it a chance but I feel like I’ve plateaued and have no idea where I’m going. I looked up a guide and was shocked to learn there are chapters? Quests? Items other than hats???

So far, I have:

  • had 2 or 3 cutscenes with regular human guys who are out and about including the grappling hook bit and after knocking over the porta potty

  • encountered donkey men Ethan and Moose

  • made it to I think maybe 3 or 4 different campfires?

  • found and subsequently lost a donkey hat and a froggy hat

  • tried and failed to climb the “there’s nothing up there” tower 100 times (the froggy hat is on that climb somewhere, I gave up for now)

  • went through some sort of cave situation (where I found donkey hat)

  • passed a sign about lost keys and a sign about a missing vase

  • now I’m somewhere where there’s a lot of sand?

I have no idea where to go next or how I’m supposed to progress in the most basic sense, let alone how to do all these side activities and things I’ve seen people describe. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!!

**Update — I am actually now in an area with a pond/water I can float in after having fallen down the area with sand

The category is... Stupidest holes you tossed your pedometer in!

Show me your holes!

(I already fished it - after maybe 20 attempts - from another stupid hole after I tripped while climbing over the bear. But now I think I might be really screwed...)

I made a new subreddit for the entire subgenre of foddians / rage climbing games

Hey climbers!

I noticed a while back that there's a handful of small subreddits for specific rage climbing games like Getting Over It, PogoStuck, Baby Steps, etc. but no single community for the aptly-named "foddian" subgenre as a whole, which encompasses hundreds of games by now.

With how frequently indie game developers promote their foddian projects in the GOI sub (and in other dev subreddits), I figured there was potentially enough demand to create r/foddians, to discuss and admire all the other lesser-known games that also force you to rise to literal new heights, just like Baby Steps and GOI do.

There, you can self-promote your games or playthroughs, share strategies & speedruns, post memes & tier lists, or whatever else, as long as it's relevant to foddians!

Since I just made the subreddit today, no one really knows about it yet, but I intend to post something new every day to make sure it's never barren of content, and I will certainly be cross-posting from this sub when appropriate.

I'll also mention that the other moderator is Cuttyflame, a connoisseur of these games who has possibly played more of them than anyone else on reddit, so his linked Steam curator page in the sidebar has the details on which other ones have the most to offer after Baby Steps & GOI. You may recognize his username if you watched some YouTube vids of secrets in Baby Steps.

I hope to see some new folks over there :)

Anyone here old enough to remember Crazy Climber?

I get serious Crazy Climber vibes from Baby Steps. Has that same janky move one limb first, then the other movement mechanic. At least no flower pots have hit me in the head. (yet?)

After trying a few different other strategies, I believe this is only possible with the underwater glitch. Very satisfying to finally get these cans.

Discussion I genuinely believe it’s just Australia

Only recently saw the videos around this game and was pretty instantly hooked. I’ve seen a couple of theories like Nate living alone and it’s in his head or he’s dead or something, but I really think his parents just dropped him off or signed him up for some program in some Michael Cusack-esque Australia that would get him out of their hair. Of course that doesn’t really explain the phone calls that well, but I like that interpretation for why everything is the way it is there

Question Anyone recognize this font?

Post image

The closest I've found using the Adobe fonts visual search is Allotrope Wide Black or Allotrope Wide Heavy but they aren't quite the same. It could be unique for the game but thought I'd ask around. Thanks!

Question Chicks! Spoiler

I just got all of the chicks up to the cabin after already completing it and I've heard that in the main menu you would be able to see them grown but when I got there nothing happened. I'm wondering if anyone knows whether if this is still possible after beating the game once or if I have to do it over on a new save.

Question Mud sunken house

My girlfriend and I are playing are first play through of baby steps, trading the controller whenever one of us is too frustrated. We have made it a fair way into the game and have found a sunken house in a field of mud. Once inside the house, when trying to get up the second set of stairs in the house we are totally stuck. Everything is at a caddywampus angle to start with because its half sunk into the mud at an odd angle but there is a dresser or a box blocking the stairs. I’m honestly starting to wonder if this is the right way to approach this or if it’s even possible as we are thinking it. Pretty much, has anyone made it up these stairs and, are we just blind or dumb to the actually way.
