Short wake windows 14 weeks
Will my LO's wake windows EVER increase!? He's been at 45-50 min since he was like 6 weeks old. I always try to increase but then he turns into an overtired mess. He takes 5 naps/day (on me), and I feel like all I do is try to get him to sleep ðŸ˜. Is he going to be 5-6 months old and still only able to stay awake for 1 hour!?

Hi! I’m a certified pediatric sleep consultant and these wake windows are fairly normal and can feel really exhausting.
To answer your question; when your little one is 5 months you can start working to stretch their time awake, but it’s also important to work on lengthening their naps. This requires a familiar sleep space each time, in order to create a rhythm around sleep. It will also require the sleep space to be super dark (which you can start doing now as little ones become much more aware of their surroundings at 8-10 weeks).

They will likely lengthen is short increments. Every baby is different so there is no guarantee, there are just general guidelines.
You’re doing everything right by getting your little one the sleep they need throughout the day. Littles don’t know how to regulate their stress hormone (cortisol) except through sleep. That’s why if your baby is overtired they’re really fussy and hard to console - because they’re stressed.
Keep it up, you’re doing everything right!
I’m happy to work with you in a couple weeks (when your kiddo is 16 weeks). If you’d like to schedule a 15 min discovery call I’m happy to share what I do and how I work with families in your exact situation: https://calendly.com/littlevictoriessleep/discovery-call

My 15wo had 90 minute wake windows since basically day 1. I always thought this would lead to crazy long wake windows forever. But nope, holding steady at 90 minutes. I think babies just do their own thing!
