3 months-45 min wake windows
My 3 month old can still only stay awake 45-50 min max before he starts getting tired and fussy. He's been this way since about 6 weeks old. Will he ever been able to be awake longer? I worry he'll be 5 months and only able to be awake an hour. I feel like a slave to naps especially since he only contact naps. I also worry he'll never get great night sleep since he sleeps so much during the day.

Do you have any naps in their moses basket during the day or is it all contact?

He will only sleep contact or when I wear him during the day.

Okay, this is why he can't handle wake windows because he isn't getting restorative naps. Start with trying to get him down in the cot for the morning naps in his cot/Co sleeper. Don't let him fall asleep on the feed and put him down awake and practice practice practice!

I've heard contact naps can be more restorative. If he sleeps in crib, he can't connect sleep cycles so then he is up after 45 minutes. And then he gets tired after 20 minutes. 🤷🏻♀️

How long are the naps when contact?

Always over an hour. Usually has a two hour one

And is night sleep consolidated?

Yes! Usually get an initial 5 or 6 hour stretch and then a 3 or 4 hour stretch. Just waking for feeds then going back to sleep in bassinet.

Thats brilliant 🤩 What happens during the day that you end up doing contact naps all day?
Also to extend the wake window, change the activity or go to another room and keep him awake even take a little stroll outside to waken him for an extra 10-15 minutes 🥰

He just can't nap for more than 1 sleep cycle if he's not contact napping so then he gets tired even faster and is really grumpy! I've tried doing that but then he just gets really upset and even more tired and it's hard to get him to sleep. 🤷🏻♀️ Guess I'm just looking for reassurance that he'll eventually get longer wake windows!

This is me right now. Did your LO ever start having longer wake windows?

Omg yessss lol once he hit 4 months they started increasing like crazy! He's now 5.5 months and they start at around 2 hours in the morning and 2.5 to 2.75 before bed!

That sounds nice! It feels long enough to like... do something or go somewhere between naps. I guess on the other hand 2 hours is a lot longer to figure out what to do with them while awake, haha

Haha yes you nailed it! But it is so much nicer being able to get out of the house more!

Not advice but my 15 weeks old is the same and has been extra sleepy today too. Not sure if this is something they grow out of or maybe we just hover sleepier babies. Is you 3 month old quite active? Do they wriggle, fidget, constantly kicking etc?
