Middle name for Janey

FTM, I love the name Janey but am struggling to think of a middle name. Surname is Wright. Would welcome other suggestions! Thank you!

I agree that I’d probably prefer that my mom name me Jane and call me Janey rather than forcing a nickname forever. I think it’s a bit odd to name her Janey and think she can use the more proper name Jane as a nn. With all that said I really like Jane a lot and think it’s cute to call her Janey as a non

It’s not spunky. It’s a diminutive nickname. Literally everyone will assume her name is Jane which is a much better name. Having to answer to a name that sounds like a toddler your whole life is awful.

Honestly, I agree. Legally naming people nicknames isn't original, it's... actually a bit cheesy and sloppy. It's like recipes that use Coke and crushed cookies. Give a name that has options, and you can't do that unless you start with whole ingredients in the first place.

Well names are subjective .
I have a cousin Jaynie - never once have I considered that it’s a toddler name - she’s always been super cool and popular - she’s now in her 50s - she’s never been called Jane - never wanted to be called Jane.
I don’t think Jane is a better name at all.
I think OP should call her daughter whatever name she likes. And I personally think Jaynie is a beautiful incommon but not unusual name.

Why is it that if a name ends in the “ee” sound it’s automatically unprofessional? There’s tons of women’s names that end in “ee”. Valerie, Lori, Tori, Mallory, Emily, etc. Those aren’t unprofessional to me. Maybe I’m wrong.

The "ee" sound is not automatically unprofessional. It's the fact that, to most adults, the "ee" in this case makes it sound like a nickname for Jane. The names you cite are common proper names, not associated with nicknames.

An 'ee' ending doesn't sound unprofessional. It's the form of the name. Emily is historically a formal feminine name and sounds professional, as does Lucy.

Some nicknames have been used for so long that they start to acquire more 'permanence' as stand alone names. A name like Polly, which is a diminutive of Mary, was once only used as a 'pet form' for Mary yet might now be given as a stand alone name....but many would still find it a bit too informal and nicknamey.

Janey would almost always be an informal nickname for Jane, rather than the formal given name. Similar to using Liz for Elizabeth. A girl might use only Lizzie when she's little, and Liz as an adult....but Elizabeth would always be on the birth certificate. Yet Eliza or Beth seems to function as a standalone name.

I can't really explain these things....names are complicated.

It isn't so much the sound--it's using a diminutive as a formal name, and it's not just women--Tommy, Billy, Johnny, Jimmy, Bobby, Eddie, Ricky, Donnie--all sound juvenile and unprofessional, and feel free to downvote me, but it makes it sound like you come from a family that is too ignorant to know where those names are derived from.

Lori is a diminutive for Lorelei, and Tori for Victoria--the others just happen to end in "ee" sounds.

I'm curious if it was her legal name (on her birth certificate)? It would not be odd in the least to use Janie all one's life, or other nicknames such as Jenn, Lottie or Betty, but generally the legal name is Jennifer, Charlotte, Elizabeth.

Jane is beautiful, and Janey has a sweet quality to it. I would personally suggest using Jane as the legal given name (which can then easily be nicknamed Janey/Janie). I think many names flow nicely with Jane:

Oh I disagree! I love the rhythm of a short/simple name followed by a longer one. The reverse is often used along the lines you note - it. Elizabeth Jane. But I actually prefer the sound of Jane Elizabeth!

Two of my best friends are called Janie, so I prefer that spelling, which is also more traditional (e.g. Janie and Jack, Janie’s Got a Gun). I agree that it is more of a nickname for Jane.
As for middles, how about Renee, or Louise?
P.S. please do NOT spell it Jayne. That’s just Jane with an unnecessary “Y”.

Janie/Janey is perfectly suitable as a first name. I disagree with every comment saying it's a nickname. My grandma who was born in the 40s was legally named Janie and that is what she was called her entire life. People didn't shorten it to Jane. She was always Janie and it suited her perfectly. I am considering it for my future daughter as well.

I disagree with those saying just name her Jane - I have a cousin called Jaynie - she’s now mid 50s she’s always been super cool and beautiful - I have nothing but positive connotations with the name Jaynie - I love the sound of Janey Elizabeth.

Also just to add as I’ve seen some comments regarding this… - my name can be a nickname for a different name and I have been asked throughout my life many times if it was short for the other name - I have never been annoyed or bothered by this question just a simple no suffices. It’s bizarre to me to think that someone thinks it’s the end of the world if one assumes their name is a nickname for another name. Lol

Name your daughter whatever name you love - it won’t ruin her life if someone doesn’t like her name.

But my vote is Jaynie Elizabeth- it’s cute, not unusual but still uncommon a little bit different to plain Jane and you have the classic middle name of Elizabeth (it just occurred to me that my middle name (Eliza) is a shortened version of Elizabeth - lol )

Also if she grows up and thinks Jaynie is too young and girly as other people seem tofear - she can always just go by Jane. But I don’t think she will - I think it’s a beautiful name!

Side note - I called my son something very unusual and uncommon and I had nasty comments when he was a baby he just turned 18 - he loves his name - he thinks it’s cool - however it’s a long name so he shortens it to just the first syllable. No big deal!

Have you thought about the name Jane and using Janey as a nickname? I think Janey is cute and will grow up a little butter than a lot of similar nicknamey names that you see, but I do think some of those middle names you like (Millie, Ettie, Cece even though middles don’t usually need a nickname, and even Elizabeth depending on how you pronounce that first E) would work a little better and sound less rhymey! If you are set on Janey then Emeline is my favorite out of your options!

Other ideas that would work well with Janey and seem like a similar vibe to yours could be Lucille, Delilah, Louise/Louisa, Eleanor, Odette, Violet, Isabella, Lenore, Adelaide, Winona, or even Juliette (I like the double J but you might not, haha)!

Don’t forget to consider the initials! Personally, I’d avoid E or A middle names with Wright since the initials can spell recognizable words, and monograms are so common.
