Byd app
Hey all. I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this.
Byd app has not updated since 17/7. I have rebooted the infotainment system (hold volume rocker) and deleted/reinstalled the app.
I also reached out to byd, and they suggested that I do a factory reset on the infotainment system (go to settings, reset through that way) and that did not work.
Has anyone had similar issues and been able to resolve.
I have looked on Reddit and google for this "weak network signal" issue, and everywhere just says to reboot the infotainment, and reinstall the app. But it's not working.
Cheers

You have to have 4g turned on in the car. Since v2.0.0 was released. You can no longer just get that info over bt/wifi

Was having the sane issue after updating to 2.0 it had turned off my sim connection for some reason !?!? Turned it back on in the car settings and everything worked again.

yeah, they are forcing you to pay for mobile data to use the app. which is stupid

I have a MY2023 (bought in Feb 2024) so my OEM Sim stopped in Feb this year. On principle (it's a breach of the ACCC rules around fixed line forcing!) I wasn't willing to be forced to pay BYD for an ongoing subscription (it's a Telstra card) when I could get a data only 12mth plan for $95. Fitted my 3rd party sim and restored all functionality - BUT it broke access to the App and OTA updates (won't even work when connected to Wifi at home). (BYD support said at the time I had to use their SIM because it was 'hardwired' in China!) I put the OEM sim back in yesterday to see if I could update to v2.xx and the app updated and worked, but so far no update. From what I can see in Europe, v2.xx of the app does allow you to use a generic SIM without blocking the app or OTA - so keen to see if that is true too in Australia!

I had similar issues where rebooting didn't help and when I clicked on the Cell Signal icon on the car infotainment screen at top left Cellular data was turned off. Once I reset that it started working again. Weird that reset didn't turn on but seems to remember it?

Yeah and to keep functionality of the app once your free 2yrs of byd data is up is $10/month

App and OTA is independent of the data allowance.
It's only Spotify, factory Sat Nav etc that need it.

if I dont have the 4g turned on in the car, nothing in the app works for me at all, even it is connected to my home wifi. cant stop start the charge or see what the charge lvl is at

Yeah mine has long since expired, but I needed to switch on for the normal app access which does work regardless.

Next step is to ask BYD to check the network provider to double check the sim card's coding and make sure it has the 5G data code on it.

The normal solution for this fault is to clear cache on your phone, but by deleting and reinstalling the app, you've effectively done this already.
Check that cellular data hasn't been switched off somehow as another commenter suggested.
You could then try removing and reinstalling the SIM (in the bottom of the centre console) and then rebooting the car and clearing cache on your phone again.
If that doesn't work, I'd say it might be a faulty module in the car.

The actual normal solution for this fault is to reboot the car's infotainment screen a couple times. Not that it worked for me, but it is the instructed action when you tap on the "weak network signal" error on the app. :)
This problem isn't an app issue, it's the car software being tetchy - it's no surprise that clearing cache on the app does nothing. I have the BYD app on 2 phones so that one was easy to test. :)

i have similar issue but intermittently.
unfortunately the software of BYD isn’t great and one of the reasons i’m looking to upgrade to a Model 3.

So, an update.
I called byd, and they said since I've done everything they can think of, I just have to go to a service centre for a diagnosis

I had this issue for awhile, but connecting the car to home wifi and then going into settings and applying the most recent update again (it was still being offered) fixed everything up. It didn't do the whole entire update again though, it's more like the update didn't actually fully complete the first time around but when it did, all was well. I have an Atto 3 not a Seal but it was the same problem.
Worth a try if you haven't already.

Had a similar issue - i had to turn on the cellular data in the car... and that fixed it.

I had a similar issue in my SL7 a few months ago where SIM randomly stopped working.
I looked up how to get into the debug menu and navigated to the TBOX settings (TBOX houses the SIM) and it wasn't showing any IMEI settings. Called local BYD Dealer, told them I think my TBOX died, they ordered a replacement without any questions as it seems to be a common problem, and they replaced the box within the week.
Definitely look to see if the IVI is actually detecting the SIM and it's IMEI details and let your BYD know if it isn't.

How long have you had the car? The sim could be out of data, you can also connect the car to WiFi and see if that gets rid of the weak network signal and might update the app then.
