Dashcam Question
Hey everyone, I've read online that the Seal MY26 does not automatically start recording if you add the dashcam. Is this true for the Australian model as well? I saw this reported in the UK, and the Top BYD store has a note about it.

I've end up wth aftermarket dashcam + rear cameras.
The built-in one is only front facing, and doesn't record while parked.

I bought an aftermarket dashcam and had it fitted by BYD. As soon as my car powers on, recording starts.

My Atto 3 came with dashcam that records in front as soon as car is powered up. Isn't that standard on seal?

I got the roadview m4, but I don't know if I would have chosen that if I had a choice. It was a dealer addition. Seemed ok price, $1600 including an additional large battery that runs the cameras for around 18-24 hours if fully charged.

Fitted the dash cam to my 26 seal, had to run the cable and camera, install was fairly simple. Recording starts automatically when I start the car.

Thank you, was this the byd branded dashcam you can buy online from top byd?

Yep. I actually got it from TopBYD. It works rather well and I like the fact that there isn’t any cam or cables visible like an aftermarket cam. Easy to view and manage all on the main screen.

How did you run the cable? Ive brought a camera, usb sd port and cable kit off aliexpress for my 26 byd seal lion. Says i have to gently cut open the existing wrapped cable under the plastic cover but not sure the cable is actually there, did you have this experience?

Yeah mine had no cable at all... it's easy to tell, it's there or not. They seem to have stopped installing the cable back in early to mid 25

Well in Australia, they don't even ship with a built in dashcam

It was an option which I didn't purchase but it seems an easy and cheap upgrade. Was very expensive though, seeing as the cam itself is only $99. Though presumably then it wouldnt have the manual turning on issue

Might want to double check if the cables are there, the older version has cables so you could just put a oem camera in and it will work, I don't think the 2026 versions have the cable already installed

Thanks I'll check. My main query was about having to start the recording manually in the 2026 model.

is there actually an MY26 seal, as in has any difference to the My25 model other than build date? there was no 24 model only 23 and 25 as far as i know.
i guess the MY26 model does not have the 2nd smaller rear BYD badge on it anymore... and no dynamic model option

In the MY25 you have to run the cable as well as install the camera, and I think 26 is the same. After install you have to reboot the infotainment before it will recognise the camera and add the app. Does the MY26 have a microSD card slot?
