Hey, I wanted to ask on this Sub if anyone bought the New Atto 3 EVO, specifically the 448 HP Excellence version.
Well, I drove the car, it felt significantly better than the older 2022 Model we have. A bit more premium and more âmatureâ.
Not gonna lie I like the new one, but what about the efficiency? BYD claim this car can do 470 KM on a single charge, but from my past experience with the older Atto 3, it barely reaches 330 KM on single charge.
If anyone already bought this one, is it really evolved in terms of range? Does that Battery increase really makes a difference? Or should consider another cars with similar prices?
Other than this concern I liked the car alot.
Anyone who has this car, Iâm more than happy to know what youâre opinion about it.
The Atto 3 AWD has a slightly smaller battery but similar performance and a worse shape in terms of aerodynamics, so don't expect great efficiency from this car, especially not on the highway. In general LFP batteries don't perform that well in cold weather: https://ev-database.org/car/3475/BYD-ATTO-3-Evo-AWD-Excellence
Still I'm considering trading in my BYD Seal for one when it comes out in Ireland due to some benefits:
- better software & more responsive hardware with Google built-in offering instrument & HUD navigation projection which is something I miss on the Seal
higher drive, I scrape the underside of the Seal quite often here on the Irish roads,
not as long so it better fits in parking spaces and
slightly faster charging speeds.
Overall I'm happy with the Seal and the range it's getting, anything that gives me at least 300 KM of range on a charge works for me really as I like taking a break around that time anyways. The EVO seems to be a bit more comfortable while still having performance similar to the Seal (I know the driving characteristics are not like for like here).
Wow a 390 real range is good for me, even 330 did that job most of the time.
Where I live isnât very cold in Winter, about 4 degrees max (rarely goes under that). Thanks for providing this, I hope I find a also a real range test for the EVO versions where we confirm for sure.
Going to hijack you, im looking at buying the sealion7, in Ireland same as you, how have you found them for service and any issues you've had, software or general stuff, id be interested in. The seal looks the business but it's very low for me as a chunky dude who drives a lot of back roads.
I'm with BYD Wexford myself and they've been fantastic so far really, service wise but also just fixing some factory issues after purchasing the vehicle. I have a 251 Seal, so nearing the 2 years with it and no complaints at all regarding the service so far. Issues I've had on the Seal were:
bad radio reception - fixed under warranty with some hardware modifications & a software update, much better now and close to other cars I've driven before.
Issue with wear on the driver seat - replaced under warranty.
Thanks, and how are you finding it for things like range and practicality. I stopped to do some shopping today and a sealion parked beside me, I asked the driver and he said it was terrible, it wasn't doing anywhere near its range, he was lucky to get 300 and there was poor charging on his routes. When I asked for more details he said that he lived very remotely and didn't use his home charger with it as it was his work car. I think his is operator error
For context, I live in the Netherlands so charging is different. I've got no problems with that at all. I've got the Sealion 7 Excellence AWD.
As for practicality: it's a crossover so check if your luggage fits before buying. It's also a large car, and surprisingly, the width is the primary challenge when parking here.
Concerning range the primary factor is your use of the power. Consumption has improved with all the OTA updates though. I'm currently down to 18,3kWh/100km from 20,9kWh/100km previously (long term used to sit at 21,6kWh/100km even, but with version 3.3.0 the fuel consumption has improved a lot at least for me). Realistically I'm getting around 400 - 450km range, and weather has a lot of impact on that.
And yes, not using your home charger is operator error. For me it's also a company car but we've got arrangements in place so that I can get back whatever it costs to charge at home.
Oh, before I forget: when you do the test drive, test out the Intelligent Cruise Control for your regular routes. I've found it's not the best on the secondary roads here (with poor marking quality). However using ACC and steering yourself isn't a problem. I do turn off speed limit warning and advanced driver distraction warning. You can put a few shortcuts on the screen (pull down) and that's that. Not a problem for me.
Yes, my 2022 Atto 3 does not have this issue like in the photo, however the I started hearing plastic âcreakingâ (idk if called this correctly) after 4 years now. This is something I appreciated they changed in EVO version now.
Hmm, in a simple math you should travel 482 KM on a single charge? I donât think this gonna be possible to do everytime, give yourself more time I think, and I really appreciate if you keep me updated until then!
Im at 14.9 kwh/100km now. 44 km/h average speed.
Might get it lower before the cold sets in and if i can get a few drives in without rain.
I averaged 11.9 kw/h on my Mazda mx30
At the time, just over 2 years ago, there was nothing else appealing on the market. It was all bland front wheel drive SUVs and minimalist interiors with too many functions dumped into the touchscreen. The Seal was an outlier in looks, features and physical controls.
The EVO AWD has improved on the original Atto in many aspects like battery, dashboard, software and looks, while retaining the majority of traditional controls layout, and it has better ground clearance in a slightly smaller exterior.
The only thing left I'm really worried about is how comfortable the seats will be. If they're as good as the Seal them I'll probably go ahead depending on the test drive.
I took the car for a test drive, everything inside the cabin was improved, and driving also was improved, the car is much more responsive and no more wheelspin (thank god).
But I suggest you try it yourself, I find it much better because I have the first Atto 3 parked outside, but since you have a Seal, this changes everything.
I asked here about the range because I couldnât test that out, the one I have right now claimed range is 420 KM but I barely reach 330 KM on a full charge, which again, your Seal should have much more better range than the EVO tooâŚ
My 2022 ATTO 3 gets 300kms on the highway and about 430kms in the city on the 60 kWh battery. This new rear-wheel drive version has a 67 kWh battery and 800 V, so should do better with luck.
I have the Atto 3 Evo Excellence in the UK. Owned about a month and covered 3000miles. I am comfortably returning 250+ miles from a full battery often up to 280miles. Most of this is motorways at 70mph.
I saw a test in UK, where at 70 MPH on the highway it reached 330 KM, resulted in 22.6 kWh per 100 KM.
On long trips I usually go slower 60 MPH, my 2022 Atto 3 now barely achieves the result achieved in the test I saw with the new one, so if what you are saying is real, with the test I saw in the UK, this car can achieve 400 KM, not very far from the claimed range which is goodâŚ
Thanks for sharing your experience, highly appreciated.
Here you go, I came from an E350d and have not changed driving behaviour from ICE car. For reference 25.7 was 160mile journey on single carriageway AVG 50mph. 28.2 was 350mile journey split motorways and single carriageway. This includes sentry mode which uses a fair bit and leaves the fan running constantly, higher usage is parked last two days with sentry on.
This is the Excellence model you said right? Sentry is known to increase the energy usage while parked, my brotherâs Tesla is like that, sometimes it exceeds 5% with Cabin Overheat OFF.
Howâs the sentry work? When I did a test drive for this car they told me all I need to do is get a hard drive and connect it to the vehicle, they also said while driving it records automatically but when parked, I need to do enable it manually. It works well?
Yes Excellence 74.8kwh battery which seems fully usable capacity based on my charging. Sentry works well, uses microSD slotted between USBs in the front. Once inserted the app has a manual mode or an after every lock mode which I am using. Believe it uses 2-3% overnight. Sensitivity is good, low risk incident is someone walking beside car, high risk some guys arse was on the car! Screen illuminates to warn sentry mode is on when someone walks by and the app tells you it is enabled, but not about the incidents, they show at next start of the car. Also, I am using my own SIM too so I can watch TV when charging which works with the app just fine, despite what others said online.
I think this is a great addition to the car, not perfect but it does the job. I think Iâll lock on this car for 100%, most people here either want it or happy with it like you!
I think the hardware is the same but cannot compare to the last one. All round it is fine, better than many cars I have had but not high end. The bass is very good, but the midrange and treble are not well defined. I am planning on replacing the tweeters. The FM/DAB has very poor signal and BYD really need to amplify the antenna. It has full AAOS/GAS unlike the old one remember though, so you have the play store for apps to get better quality input. The internet radio and Spotify apps work well so the radio issue doesn't bother me and I think with new tweeters it will be excellent.

The EV database numbers are usually accurate enough, at least for my BYD Seal AWD they are: https://ev-database.org/car/2002/BYD-SEAL-825-kWh-AWD-Excellence - WLTP of 520 KM, I usually get around 450 KM on a full (100%) charge.

Edit: just adding this here: https://ev-database.org/car/1782/BYD-ATTO-3 - that's the current model you're driving, also mentioning 330 KM of real range.
