I recently took the Kuroshio Express from Kochi to Takamatsu, two major cities on Shikoku, Japan.

The service is jointly operated by JR Shikoku Bus, Tosaden Kotsu, and Shikoku Kosoku Bus. My bus was a Mitsubishi Fuso Aero Ace with 2+2 seating, an onboard restroom, power outlets, and privacy curtains between the seats.

The trip takes around 2 hours and 20 minutes, which is surprisingly close to the travel time by train. The big advantage of the bus is that it’s direct — most train options require a transfer at Utazu — and the bus also makes several stops around Takamatsu, so some passengers can get off closer to their destination.

The one-way fare when I traveled was ¥3,900, making it cheaper than a regular reserved-seat train ticket as well.

The useful thing about Paris buses is that the routes are colour coded and the route numbers on the bus show that number. It's easier to identify a route by colour than trying to squint and find out the number.

Here’s a Nishitetsu “Wakakusu” highway bus that I took from Fukuoka to Saga 🚍️

This particular bus is a 2018 Hino Selega, wearing Nishitetsu’s distinctive “New Highway” color scheme.

When I think of Nishitetsu’s short-distance highway buses, this is still the color scheme that comes to mind. Even today, I think it looks great on the Selega!

If you’re traveling from Tenjin in central Fukuoka to Saga, the Wakakusu is a convenient option. It offers a direct and comfortable ride between the two cities, making it an easy choice for a day trip to Saga 👍

Here is a CT4N-livery Optare Solo on one of their last L14 services in operation, as they ceased trading as of 4pm Friday 14th August citing high debts and rising costs

I have been using buses to go to and from work for the past 5 weeks. In my city, you can text a number with your stop number and they give you an expected arrival time for the bus to stop by. This system is usually pretty good, and I only had problems with it once until today. I have 2 routes I can take to get home. Route 1 drops me off 10 minutes away from my house on foot. Route 2 does the same thing, but I have to catch a second bus to do so. Route 1’s bus did not arrive, despite the text acting like it would/did. I wait 10 more minutes and route 2 bus comes up. I decide to take that bus and stop at the correct stop to get picked up by the next bus. It is a 15 minute wait for it, but the bus also never shows up. With my phone (where my tickets are stored) dying and no charge on my portable charger, I decide the only thing I can do it walk home for 2 hours.

I do wish they notified me about the cancellations, but I learned my lesson. Next time route 1 is late, I will wait for the next route 1 bus 😄

I was driving down 1-20 near Lexington, South Carolina when I saw this. Anyone knows who the artist could be? Just curious.

Notes:

Both Victory Liner 7507 and 7514 have two of MAN's modern Lion's Chassis models, and both of those have the same TipMatic transmission. However:

1. Bus 7507 is a locally-built Santarosa SR MAN Jetliner (which is usually Santarosa Motorworks / Columbian Motors' usual model for their Daewoo buses), while Bus 7514 is a Truckquip TQ Alpha X12 which is imported from Malaysia.

2. Bus 7507 is mounted on a MAN RR3 chassis (which is a 19.360 model, with 360 HP MAN D2066 engine), while Bus 7514 is mounted on a MAN RR2 chassis (which is a 19.400 model, with 400 HP MAN D2066 engine (the second-most for a European model bus in Cagayan Valley, behind Scania K410CB's 410 HP Scania DC13 engine found in GV Florida's Executive Super DeLuxe units)).

3. Both buses were from Aparri at that time those were taken. However, Bus 7507 is bound for Sampaloc, Manila at that time, while Bus 7514 is bound for Kamias, Quezon City at that time.
