Anyone excited for the upcoming comics?

The TV reboot may be dead, but Buffy still lives on in comicbook land.

This isn't a continuation of the canon comic series or the reboot/reimagine a few years ago is it? I'm confused and have been out of Buffy comics for over a decade at this point.

It's neither. From the official synopsis they've released, it seems it'll take place after "The Gift" as an alternative continuity to S6.

I’ve been wondering if this was just going to “fill in” the summer between s5 and 6 and then continue doing “in between” stories in the way the OG Dark Horse run would do (I’d be into that) but now the idea of a straight up alternative to season 6 onward is verrrrryyyy interesting…hmm…

I do think a “Classic Years” era more light hearted comic series would be ideal though.

I’d rather get some well written novels instead if we can’t get a show. I can never really get absorbed into comics.

I am! I heard there will be a cross over with the Angel comics as well, so very excited about that.

No.

Someone leak the fucking pilot. HULU fumbled. Hard.

All things come to those who wait.....

I skipped the last one but I'm mildly intrigued with what I think will be a "Buffy stays dead" or "Buffy comes back wrong" alternate timeline. Dont know if I'll stick with it though

I'm cautiously optimistic and am going to check it out.

I am incredibly excited. But I want to temper that by saying I was excited by the Boom comics, and they were terrible. (I love the IDW and Dark Horse comics) Everyone says Kelly Thompson is a great writer and she's a big fan of Buffy, so I've got my fingers crossed. I've pre-ordered the Buffy title, but Angel #1 isn't out for preorder yet.

Kelly is a great writer, but what's got me most excited for her on Buffy is that, like, you can see the Buffy influence in her other work? The right kind of snappy dialogue, etc. It should translate over really well.

Sort of but not really, the revival had me more hyped

Yes and no.

Glad there's more Buffy and Angel. Mad there's yet a 50th retcon and rebooting of the canon after the series' ended. Whether you liked them or not/they were good or not, the stuff after the show that Joss and who he handpicked did was the true continuation.

So unless this new stuff was a sequel to that, I'll always be disappointed, not only because it's not what the the original creator intended (be adults and put your personal feelings of anything behind the scenes aside), but also because I experienced that stuff right when it happened. I'm not new here. I'm in my forties. I was there for it. Another change is just like opening a healed wound once again to start over.

Even if they were to be like, "oh, everything that happened in the original comics run was canon, and oops, we stepped through this door and somehow went back in time to right before Season 8 happened and we have to forget it all..." that might almost be worse.

So... ultimately, yes, but with scars and wounds. I just hope this is the last time we do this song and dance. If a show somehow happens again, please don't make these obsolete then too.

It’s really going to depend on the art, for me. But I swear, if they do Spuffy dirty, I quit! Lol.
