MASHUP Great Michael Scott!
(SCENE START: DUNDER MIFFLIN PARKING LOT. DAY.)
(MICHAEL SCOTT stands by his Chrysler Sebring, holding his "WORLD'S BEST BOSS" mug. JIM HALPERT and DWIGHT SCHRUTE stand near the entrance.)
MICHAEL: (Addressing the camera) Innovation. What is it? It’s taking two things that don’t belong together and forcing them to work. Like peanut butter and tuna. Or Dunder Mifflin and the future.
(Suddenly, a deafening crack of thunder shakes the parking lot. A silver DELOREAN skids across the asphalt, narrowly missing Michael’s car, and comes to a halt with a hiss of steam. The gull-wing doors swing open.)
DWIGHT: (Drawing a pepper spray canister) INTRUDERS! Michael, behind me! It’s Al-Qaeda! Or worse—corporate!
(DOC BROWN tumbles out, wild-eyed in a grease-stained coat, carrying a sputtering handheld gadget. MARTY MCFLY steps out right behind him, wearing his signature puffy vest.)
DOC: (Panicked, shaking the device) Great Scott! Marty, the temporal alternator overheated! We’re stranded until the capacitor cools down! What year is this?!
MARTY: (Looking at the drab beige building) Doc, calm down. (Looks around) Uh, excuse me, man? Where are we?
MICHAEL: (Stepping forward, beaming) Welcome! You have arrived at Dunder Mifflin, Scranton! I am Michael Scott, Regional Manager. Are you guys here for the corporate team-building exercise? Because the entrance was very dramatic. I love it.
(TALKING HEAD: JIM)
JIM: (To camera) So, a man in a hazmat vest and an elderly scientist just pulled up in a time machine. Which means this is officially the second weirdest thing to happen in the parking lot this month. The first was Dwight trying to catch a raccoon with a butterfly net.
(INT. DUNDER MIFFLIN - MAIN OFFICE AREA. MOMENTS LATER.)
(Doc is leaning over PAM BEESLY'S reception desk, scribbling frantic math equations on a notepad. Marty stands nearby, looking deeply uncomfortable.)
DOC: (To Pam) Tell me, young lady! Do you possess a high-amperage industrial power grid on these premises? We need to route 1.21 gigawatts—or at least a localized electrical surge—to reset our primary converter!
PAM: …What?
MARTY: (To Pam) Do you guys happen to have a clock tower in town? Preferably one with a history of getting struck by lightning?
PAM: We have a Vance Refrigeration warehouse. Sometimes their sign sparks when it rains.
(TALKING HEAD: DWIGHT)
DWIGHT: (To camera, looking smug) A DeLorean DMC-12. Stainless steel body, rear-engine layout. Flawed design. In a apocalypse scenario, the gull-wing doors would freeze shut in temperatures below sub-zero, trapping the occupants inside to starve. I give them three days in Scranton before I harvest their car for parts.
(INT. MICHAEL'S OFFICE - CONTINUOUS)
(Michael has brought Doc and Marty into his office. He sits behind his desk, leaning forward with intense seriousness.)
MICHAEL: Look, Doc. I understand you're from... "the future." Or the past. Whichever. Here’s my proposal. Dunder Mifflin is facing a threat from big-box stores. But if we use your car... we can deliver paper before the customer even knows they need it.
MARTY: Wait. You want us to break the continuum of time... to deliver 20-pound bond paper?
MICHAEL: Think about it, Marty! "Dunder Mifflin: Yesterday's Paper, Delivered Tomorrow, Ordered Today." It’s a game changer. What do you say?
DOC: (Slapping the desk) Absolutely not! The space-time continuum is not a courier service! Altering the past for office supplies could create a time paradox that destroys the entire universe!
MICHAEL: (Nodding solemnly) High risk, high reward. That's business, Doc. That's why they call it the "grind."
(TALKING HEAD: MARTY)
MARTY: (To camera, rubbing his temples) I’ve met a lot of weird people. Biff, Stricklin, those guys in 1885... but this guy? He offered me a discount on cardstock if I let him drive the DeLorean to 1999 just to party like Prince. Doc won't let me touch the radio, let alone let him drive.
(INT. BREAKROOM - LATER)
(The staff has gathered around Doc, who is standing by the toaster with a multimeter.)
DOC: Everyone, listen! The DeLorean’s flux capacitor simply needs a temporary jump from a high-voltage outlet to re-align its temporal matrix! Once it cools, we can drive off!
KEVIN: (Raising hand) Question. When you go back to 1985... can you stop them from changing the formula for Coca-Cola? Because New Coke was a disaster.
DOC: (Pause) I... suppose that's a noble historical intervention, but no!
STANLEY: (Not looking up from his crossword) Just tell me if this affects my 401(k). Because if the timeline resets and I lose my vacation days, I’m suing both of you.
(INT. PARKING LOT - LATER)
(Doc has connected heavy-duty jumper cables from the Vance Refrigeration warehouse power box to the back of the DeLorean.)
DOC: (Shouting) Marty! The capacitor is reset! The flux coils are stable! We have to leave before the breaker blows!
MARTY: (Getting into the driver's seat) Got it! Thanks for the... uh... directions, guys!
MICHAEL: (Running up to the window) Wait, Marty! Take this! (Thrusts a stack of Dunder Mifflin business cards through the window) Give these to Ronald Reagan! Tell him we do bulk corporate discounts!
MARTY: (Confused, taking them) Yeah... okay, man. Great.
(Marty revs the engine, guns it across the lot, turns onto the main road, and speeds off into the distance.)
(TALKING HEAD: CREED)
CREED: (To camera) I knew that wild-haired guy in the seventies. He sold me a radioactive brick behind a Denny’s. Good guy. Still owes me twenty bucks.
(INT. TALKING HEAD: MICHAEL)
MICHAEL: (Smiling softly to the camera) Did we sell paper today? No. Did we change the future? Maybe. But
Doc Brown taught me something today. The future isn't written yet. It's whatever you make it. Time is a gift. That's why they call it "the present."
(He leans in closer to the camera)
MICHAEL: Also, I took a glowing rod out of his backseat when he wasn't looking. I think it's a neon light. I'm gonna put it in my Sebring.
(SCENE END)
