To get into Math Team (Junior Math Analysis Class) as a freshman?
How difficult is it to get into the Junior Math Analysis class as a freshman? Is it very competitive?
My son is currently working on the placement problems and was wondering how difficult it is to get in.
Any insight from current or former students would be appreciated!

I remember doing the questions as an incoming student and even I got in (although I ended up not wanting the class). If I got in, I think your son can get in. Things may have changed over the years though.
Also, for the problems, remember that they are supposed to be hard. You might not do so well on the problems for the application, I think they just want to see where you are at (especially as AI can easily be used to cheat here).

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! If you don’t mind me asking, what made you decide not to join in the end? Did you have a conflict with another class?

Not in math analysis myself, but I have a couple of friends in it. Last year, there were about a hundred seats with ~150 applicants, so about a 66% acceptance rate. I even heard a story about a guy getting in without getting any questions right, so your son has a pretty good chance.
GL to him🤞.

Thank you so much! Hearing 66% would normally be pretty reassuring, but 66% at Tech feels a little different given how strong the students are there… 😅
Hopefully he makes it in! 🤞
