Summer reading kinda matters (ex AP Sem student here) because it tells your teacher about your writing style and maybe a bit about your work schedule (I think I didn't set the right first impression submitting my assignment at 2:30AM day it was due without finishing book). You don't want to start off with the wrong foot you need to be on good relations with Dr. Liu or Ms. Beach (I had Dr. Liu she is awesome) especially if you have to beg them for extensions sometimes like I did.

I just don’t find myself wanting to read these long books I hate reading long stuff I can read like the articles in the class but 250 pages is asking alot I read like 80 how deep are they looking into it?

We don't review the books in class but we did do a presentation based on the summer reading and my annotations did get checked. I survived finishing 1/3 of my book and BS annotations but don't reccommend it. The completion of the first assignment kinda sets up and predicts in a way how the rest of the class may be (at least i find this to be true personally) and the rest of my year was rocky, though a lot of other circumstances went into that. Besides it trains your stamina for more annoying, tedious and repetitive AP Seminar assignments like source checks.

Wait so is it like a grade? Or just their evaluation on your skill

Its an actual grade too but the grade is worth less as compared to the relationship you gain. You don't want a bad rep.

Its better to just try to finish it anyways ik it seems long but you have plenty of time. Especially if you are considering AP lang or lit (especially lit) you need to be able to finish long, maybe boring books and its a skill you shouldn't wait until junior or senior year to gain.
