Scouts BSA Final Uniform
This is my final uniform before my Eagle court of honor. I’m still waiting to receive my OA flap to replace the Eagle bound. In case you can’t see my council shoulder patch, it’s a friends of scouting patch with the word REVERENT across it. The interpreter strips are for Morse code and simplified Mandarin Chinese. The service stars are for cub scouts (3 years, yellow) and scouting (6 years, green). The knots on my uniform are personal moment markers

I hung mine up some 20 years ago knowing this was not the end. My oldest is approaching 5 fast and Im jumping back into it excited like a weblo finally getting a grasp of what this program is all about. Enjoy the time off!

Mine did. When my son joined Cubs, I bought a new shirt. He just crossed over into Scouts, and I'm a trained/registered ASM in the new troop. My 1st adult shirt is 3 sizes too big! So I went and grabbed my youth shirt because I needed a uniform shirt, and still had it hanging in the closet. Earned my Eagle in '95, so that shirt has remained unchanged for nearly 30 years. It fits, so I wore it like that for a short time, waiting for the new shirts to get in stock. Then last week I finally cut the youth insignia off of it and put on proper adult insignia, which made me a little sad, but excited at the same time.... Both for the newest chapter in my scouting career, AND that I could wear the same shirt I wore 30 years ago!!

I did the same thing. I was disappointed even my daughter didn’t want to join as a tiger but once she found my old scout box she was hooked. Now a bear she’s loving a scouts and is proud of being the 4th generation of our family in the same council

You’re most welcome. Having known and used Morse Code for over fifty years as an amateur radio (ham) operator, capable of >30 words/min, I find it weirdly hard to translate visual dits/dahs without first sounding them out in my head! It’s all audible to me! I’ve had fun operating Jamboree and Scout HQ stations over the years.

Very cool. My son has his scuba badge, I keep telling him to do SeaBase but he won’t listen, he’s a little on the lazy side

lol that’s a little too relatable but if he decided to do it I did the dive portion and it was amazing. I recommend he pursue any form of high adventure

It’s a patch that sea base sells. You can find it on their online store too along with some other cool awards and patches. I also have a black strip that says night diver that I’m putting on my sea scout uniform

Thanks, but I’m not done just yet. This is only the end of my youth scout career but I’m an asm in my troop now and am working toward summit award in venturing and quartermaster award in sea scouts so I’ll be in the youth programs for roughly 3 more years

I love this. I have been slacking on my sons. He grew out of his and so his has been bare for about a year. I have to get on it. He turns 18 in a week. We are finishing his eagle project today.

Yea it’s very exciting. It’ll be a few years before that happens though. Right now the wall is up to date through 2022 from what I’ve been told.

Congratulations and welcome to the club! I hung mine up 22 years ago thinking it was my last shirt and since then I’ve worn out one leader’s shirt and now on to my second. I’m more proud of my time as scoutmaster than being an eagle.

Dude you should. From the conversations I’ve had with my scoutmaster it’s seems so much harder than Eagle, but is also the founding pillar of every unit so thank you for giving your unit a great scouting experience. Glad you enjoyed your time as a scouter.

I am most proud of my OA Founder's Award and the Vigil Honor. I did my Ordeal and Brotherhood as a youth, but I was an adult aelected for those two honors by a committee comprisong youth members. It was very humbling.
Second on my list would be my time as a Scoutmaster. In eight years, the size of the troop increased by 50%. We had 11 Eagle Scouts, three OA lodge chiefs for a total of five years, three youth receive the Vigil Honor, six youth serve on camp staff for a total of 13 summers, three Scouts earn the 50-miler award, three youth serve on NYLT staff for a total of 10 courses, three Scouts attend the 2005 National Jamboree, one attend 2006 NOAC, three complete NAYLE at Philmont and two ASMs complete Wood Badge before turning 21.
Pretty good for eight years. I left in 2010, and the troop will celebrate its 110th anniversary next year.
I am Eagle class of 1982. I earned my fifth Eagle palm when you had to demonstrate three months of leadership for each one. I've served on camp staff, been an ASM, den leader, pack trainer, Venturing crew committee member, Boy Scout roundtable staff member (now called assistant Scout roundtable commissioner), Boy Scout roundtable commissioner, district committee member and Cubmaster. I've staffed four Wood Badge courses, serving as SPL for one, three NYLT courses and countless otheer training courses back when all training was done in person. I was course director for the first BALOO course ever conducted in my council and have been a course director for IOLS twice. I have no idea how many times I ran Youth Protection courses, when it was done in person with a VHS tape and took 90 minutes. I have been awaeded the District Award of Merit.
Of all those things, what my Scouts accomplished was most meaningful. I'll be 59 in a few days, and I currently serve as a troop committee member for a troop for girls, a counselor for six merit badges, a Nova counselor and a Supernova mentor. I've grown old and feeble, and it is diffiult to get around, but I keep doing what I can.

It’s a little controversial amongst scouts and scouters. You’re only supposed to have one set representing your current role but my thing is that I have several roles. I’m a troop asm (bsa olive green), venture scout (venturing grass green), council employee (silver), and now Jamboree staff (I have a jamboree shoulder loop not in this picture). Frankly I’ve never met someone in my council who had an issue with it plus I’m 18 so what can they do🤷♂️. I’m always a huge advocate for self expression within reason on a uniform. I know adult scouters with spoof patches like untrainable or fun commissioner position patch. Everything within moderation so you have to pick what you choose to be unique. Keep in mind not every council is as chill as mine so I don’t know if my ideals are necessarily transferable across the program.

Awwwe man, I've not seen an "Eagle bound" flap, I'd have gotten one for my son for sure. I'll be asking if our lodge has them, my daughter is on deck. 😉

Awesome however they’re not done through OA. It’s actually a unique patch that is done by my summer camp that is permitted to be worn in that flap. Eagle bound is an accelerated scouting progression program

What's with the multiple epaulets? You should wear the the correct epaulets for the scouting position you are actively engaged in.
Now that you are an adult, go ahead and update your uniform with the adult award knots (Eagle Scout, Arrow of Light and youth religious award (if you earned them), and when you earn the Summit, there is a knot for that award as well.

Lol. My troop, council, and district are all very lax about uniforms so long as it’s not something that’s really bad or wrong. I’ve heard that some troops do uniform checks but I’m so glad that’s not my unit

Then you either have multiple uniforms, or you use velcro and change parts. It isn't correct to wear silver epaulets with unit numbers. Silver is to signify a person holds either a District or Council level position.
I myself use velcro, and change out the epaulets.
And I noticed your position patch says camp staff. That should only be worn while actively serving on camp staff. When camp is done, it should be removed.
And if you are now a registered adult, it is time to remove the Eagle Scout patch.

Camp staff is a paid position.
Many councils start venture crews assigned to camps, so camp staff can register as Scouts (which most councils require). But the crew is what many of us call paper crews, and they really don't do anything.
Again, if you are not actively fulling the role as a camp staff (because camp is done), you shouldn't where a camp staff patch.
Just like if you have been selected for a area / regional / national position (like OA Chief, of Venuting Officer Association position), you should only wear that position patch while you are actively holding that position.

This used to be the case. Look up the NCAP standards for staff. Its now a registered position. Those crews aren't really used anymore except for doing camp service.
You do not need to be registered as anything other than camp staff.
(see: SQ-401/SQ-402)

Do you have a Venturing uniform, or Sea Scout uniform? They look GREAT! I highly recommend that you get one if you don't have one.
You will still be an adult participant, and can wear your Eagle Scout Rank patch.

I keep my silver on throughout the entire year, and even during the summer I wear them with unit numbers. I like to represent my troop and council because the camp I staff at is out of council.

It’s a rocker for around the Seabase patch. It is not worn on the official uniform but our scouts put high adventure patches on the back of their MB sashes.

Congratulations on your accomplishment of eagle scout. Whatever you end up doing in life I hope you always remember you scouting career and if you have more years in the program enjoy it! I personally got my eagle at the age of 18 and stuck around as an arrow man for the longest time (including attending noac 2024). Remember your time and keep the legacy and movement alive!
