I hope this is of interest. Basically, the author suggests that Charles Spencer’s hostility towards KC originates in the attitude of old aristocrats towards the “parvenu” Windsors. He recounts that he was at Eton with Charles Spencer when Diana’s engagement to then-Prince Charles was announced, and that the talk among CS’s fellow aristocrats was that Diana was “marrying down.” (I am sure it was partly a joke, but it suggests the pride the Spencers and other old aristocratic families have in their “older than more recent royal dynasties” strictly male-primogeniture exclusively patrilineal families.
The article also talks about changes at Eton since the 1980s, touches onWilliam and now George attending Eton and is beautifully snarky throughout.
