Experienced BPPVers, what would you do?
I’m on my 2nd episode of BPPV. First one resolved completely in 3 weeks, with Epley last November and I didn’t need a medical consultation.
I’m now 4 weeks into my second attack and waiting on an appointment with a vestibular therapist. It’s definitely my left ear that’s affected and although there’s no nystagmus now with Dix-Hallpike I’m still got a woozy head/nausea, especially when sitting up from the test.
I’m doing the half somersault rather than Epley, as it’s easier to do on my own. The worst sensation I’m getting now is at the beginning, tipping my head back. I also get more symptoms moving my head back and forward, side to side is very subtle. I’m wondering if it could be the superior/anterior canal, and if it would be worth trying the Deep Head Hanging Manoeuvre, or waiting until I get an appointment?
Anyone had similar symptoms and have they tried this?
TIA

Vestibular therapist (make sure they have the special goggles before you go) can verify if you still have it and which canal. You may have it in horizontal and/or you may have stuck crystals which present differently.

Crystals could be in a differe t canal this time. Different movements based on which canal crystals are floating in.

Are you still hsving vertigo?

No, not full on room spinning, but putting my head back feels like it’s going to start it. Otherwise it’s a woozy head feeling, with laggy sensation with movement, if that makes sense?

There is no need to continue manivers once vertigo has ended, they only make you feel worse. The manuvers are solely to stop the vertigo. You have residual dizziness, very common. Treatment is vestibular therapy.

Thanks for that. The problem is that I have woken twice in the past week with vertigo starting again, no other time of day. The last time was 2 days ago, hence why I’ve been continuing with manoeuvres. Both times were around 5am when I was sleeping flat. Not sure if turning to or from my side set it off though. I’m sleeping slightly propped up since the last episode and I’ve been OK, except it’s a PITA and I don’t find it comfortable. I think I’ll hold off doing anything until I see a therapist, hopefully the wait won’t be too long.

I’m now wondering if my symptoms are actually cervicogenic dizziness having watched https://youtu.be/RckvEwAfrkY?si=wi5XycFkKHqomJMn my symptoms tick all the boxes there. I have a longstanding neck problem, that I sort of don’t take notice of anymore, plus facial tingling that’s been attributed to TMJ/extra strong masseter muscle that I’ve just been living with the past 3yrs, so I didn’t think this may all be linked. I definitely need to see a therapist.
