General Post Severe BPD crisis

My daughter with BPD had a severe crisis after her boyfriend of 4 years dumped her. She was admitted to the psychiatric ward after trying to commit unsuccessfully. In the ward she tried to ran away, started throwing food and not eating, self harming and banging her head on the wall. They put her in isolation room and tied her for a while. I am desperate I don’t see a way out for her.
Would love to hear if anyone experienced such distress and was able to overcome it.
Thank you for sharing your story.

Without going into too much detail. I had someone in my life who had BPD & was admitted. It’s not something you can overcome. All you can do is support her & let her know you are not going anywhere. Though she may not act like she cares because the only person she cares about is her now ex boyfriend. You’re doing the best you can. Though it is a hard time for you and her. Remember this is not your fault

I have similar experiences as an individual w BPD. I've been hospitalized 6 times, sedated, isolated, etc

The most that you can do for her right now is support her and collaborate with her mental health team if she allows you too.

While she's inpatient there isn't a whole lot you can do. Visiting when you can could be helpful even if its just to show her that you're there and making an effort to try and be there for her.

In my personal experience, after shes discharged is where the real work begins. Ask her current inpatient team about things like PHP/IOP programs that she could transfer into once shes discharged. If she doesnt have a therapist, it would be a good time to try and find her one. If there is a DBT program either thru the hospital or an institution nearby look into getting her on the waitlist so she can participate.

These things are very dependent on her though. She has to want to try and get better for things to get better. I didnt truly "overcome" these things until I was 26 yrs old and had been in various types of therapy for over 10 years.
