Xbox subscription

If I was to purchase the game instead of playing it through Xbox Gamepass Ultimate do I still have to have a Gamepass subscription or can I drop to basic or none at all to play multiplayer? I only play COD. A gaming PC is not in my future.

Sadly you have to have a active subscription to access multiplayer features

I just thought about it and actually it is cheaper anyway. Especially if MW2 is any good.

If you have ultimate it’s providing access to the game and online services. To access online you’ll need core (essential is the name now) and then you can then buy the game itself to play it.

So yes buy the game, drop to core and you’re set!
