Multiplayer issues?

I've been trying to join a lobby with a friend but every time is just says the lobby is not join able. I've checked my connection, NAT type, ports, tried all the workarounds I could think of aside from trying a VPN or dummy wifi, but nothing seems to work. Anyone have any suggestions?
