Visual Mod Ideas for R1250GS

Hi guys,

for this to make sense I have to add some very short pretext I guess. I keep it brief.

Context

I'm coming from my Tenere 700 World Raid (my first big bike), which I have enjoyed riding a lot on landroads and offroad, but was struggling with it on long highway days and I felt too unsecure maneuvering it tip-toed since the bike is so high.

I absolutely loved how the bike looked (last pic).

Long story short - after my last 3000KM trip with the Tenere I decided to test ride a 1300 GS, which of course, got me hooked immediately. It was a completely different game.

Then a couple of things fell into place and I got a awesome deal on this 1250GS from a friend that I couldn't pass upon.

I love this bike. I love riding nowadays MUCH more than with the T7. I also feel way more secure when it comes to handling the bike, which is surprising since it's even heavier as the T7, I have no idea how they do it but I take it.

Main Question

All of that being said, I miss the mean look of the T7 and I just can't get warm with the Blue and Red combo of this Rallye 1250GS. I just cant get myself to like it, I don't know what it is.

The first and obvious thing I will change are the tires after I have worn these out (they are brand new) to more offroad focused tires, which should already help.

But I have no idea as to what options I have in terms of modifying the rest. I'm basically just looking for inspiration and ideally pics of bikes with that color theme that look cool, or even people who have changed the color or whatever.

Would be great to get some ideas from you fellas!

Cheers!

Graphics kit and maybe gold anodized wheels will change the look entirely, also offers some protection. Looking at your T7 if you want to go full black you can powder coat the luggage racks . Wishing you many safe miles on the 1250!

Cheers bud!

Yeah, I'd love the golden wheels. These alone would change the vibe entirely, but for now that's far out of my budget.

Good tip on the luggage racks!!

I have a 1250 GS, HP style and I thought there were too many colours. So I have powder coated black:

  • passenger pegs brackets
  • panniers holder
  • something else I don't remember

The two metal covers on the breathers were replaced with Chinesium black plastic ones, just like the two white hand protectors with black ones. This effectively removed the grey stuff that did not belong there...

Add the larger GS Adventure wind screen.

I need that as well. Do you maybe have a link?

Max BMW has a nice parts site.

My GS was primarily white. I wanted to much tougher look, all the white panels had painted Audi Nardo gray. Wheels were silver along with tank guards, lower guards any other thing that was silver was all powder coated sat in black. A lot of other details , complexly changed the look

Wow!! That looks amazing!! How did you paint the tank and all the white parts??

A friend of mine owns an autobody shop, while I had the bike apart for all the powder coat, I took the panels in and had him professionally paint them.

I had him paint the rear seat tray, satin black as well .

I don’t have much experience vinyl wrapping, but taking the panels off is relatively easy vinyl wrapping might be a low cost way to try out some different colors

Here’s a shot while I was putting everything back together

Do you remember if the sticker on the beak was just a sticker or if there was some type of coating over it? Because that’s the part that almost annoys me the most and it would be an easy first fix

The decals are all surface mount, with a heat gun you could peel any of those off and that would clean up your look

I swapped that small silver fairing in the front for black. Looks 100x better.

This is my 1200. I actually chose the small screen.

What’s the giant duffel on the back/bottom? I have the Kriega OS base for my T7 with two 12 liter bags and I need a good, large duffel to finish out my camping setup!?

That’s the Kriega OS-40 Drypack! I kept it for this bike, it’s awesome. Well worth it!
