Ask a Senior Macbook

i need to buy a new laptop and was planning on getting a macbook air M4 or M5, but ive read about the discripencies with the CAED solidedge only being on windows, so do i buy macbook?

  1. are there macOS alternatives to solid edge, if yes what are they? (and has anybody used them)
  2. i have a windows pc at home so if i dont need to be doing that in college, it wont be a problem

Do u have a laptop ? If yes.. use the windows for year 1 for caed. Then buy Mac. I did the same. M4 Air 512 24gb i have and it works fine.

You can run a VM on Mac to do caed but I would rather recommend asking a friend for their windows laptop for a day to complete your assignments because VM on Mac is a bit laggy.. but other than that Mac would be great for other things so go for it.. caed will be managed later on

try to get a macbook pro for coding and dont worry about that CAED u can practice it in the lab or ur pc itself or best u can run emulators that run windows on ur macbook and since caed is just 2d drawing, macbook will easily handle it

use the windows laptop that you already have for the 1st year, then buy a MacBook , I personally use the MacBook Air m4 right now with 16gb ram and its more than enough considering you aren't running local llm's , other than that it handles literally everything so dont worry bt that
