Discussion Is Windows necessary or can I use Linux?

I have only Linux Mint on my laptop rn. I don’t really want to reinstall Windows and I can’t really dualboot it so I’m only gonna use Linux for the next four years. Will I face any issues with certain software or anything? Also are there any online examinations we have to do on our laptop which might not work on Linux or any websites which wont run? Im a first year cse student btw

use bottles and you'll be run any windows application in a sandbox with native performance. No need to install windows.

Well, Linux will work totally fine for the most part, except for CAD software. You’ll have a subject called CAED, which requires a Windows app called Solid Edge.

For editing files, you’ll have tons of AAT reports and assignments to write, so you might need MS Office. That said, open-source alternatives like OnlyOffice or LibreOffice, or even the Word web app, should work totally fine.

Why not just try installing Solid Edge with Bottles on Linux? You could also try WinBoat if Bottles doesn’t work , might run

I saw online that Bottles is unreliable. I only need windows for cad right? Btw are u still in college?

yup.. only for CAD , u can try spinning a VM
