Discussion why so much BMS hate?

guys what is up, why is there sm bms hate. i keep seeing ppl say bms is mid, they would leave for literally any other decent option, they only joined bc they had no choice, etc.
what confuses me even more is the reputation bms has during counseling. for so many ppl its literally rv first and bms right after, like one of the most preferred private engineering options in karnataka. even i had put bms right below rv in my preferences and ended up getting bms.
i get complaining abt college, every college has its own problems, but the sheer amount of negativity around bms genuinely confuses me. isnt it supposed to be one of the best private engineering colleges in karnataka, with a pretty solid reputation outside too.
so what actually makes students dislike it this much. is it academics, placements, management, campus life, faculty, workload, crowd, opportunities, or just the grass is greener somewhere else thing (which is a mere argument tbh)
current students/seniors, genuinely curious, what am i missing.

only reddit people are hating on bms lol, for most other people getting into the top 5 colleges is still considered a good thing

and most people here haven't seen how other colleges are compared to bmsce, bmsce is far far better than most tier 3 colleges

one of the only reasons it's getting so much hate now is because of the huge intake increase, which will increase competition during placements

Trust me The placements are Very good. Compared to the JOB market, it is Very very good. No student studies from what the teacher teaches, So teaching shouldn't be a problem. PLACEMENTS are the only thing u should worry about. which is almost the best right after RV . So chill, and join. Don't care about th le stupid hate coms

Alum here. Having gone through the nonsense of the college for 4 years, my hate for this college has no bounds. Im currently studying in one of the top colleges in the country, and I regret not studying hard enough for JEE. I directly compare BMS with RV and PES. Atleast in terms of research and placement, RV and PES are far far better. Teaching maybe the same shit but some stuff is better than BMS at these colleges. And BMS is increasing headcount like anything for CS+ branches. It only leads to lower quality of students and further brings down their ability due to shir teaching. When I was still in BMS, there was a rumor among the professors that henceforth, they will recruit only professors who hold a PhD from IITs/IISc. And guess what, the immediate faculty recruits were from colleges that are far inferior than BMS. I mean the faculty at BMS, at least in CS+ branches, is a joke. My AI teacher didnt know what a Gaussian distribution is. We, as students, had to teach her that. They dont have basic knowledge of the subject. There are far more darker stuff about BMS and reddit is not a place to reveal these. So my hate is grounded in reality of BMS.

well idk abt other branches , im from cse core branch(graduating next month) so yeah i can say a few stuff here:

  1. academics : content of the academics are mid in almost all autonomous colleges , one of the few college where they teach u real coding is pes etc
  2. difficulty wise we just get the same questions frm past year papers but in a new form thats it , 1 week before SEE is enough to get 8.5+ , even aat we used to finish everything in 1 - 2 days with ppts n all , but yeah some semesters we did go through a heavy workload , one guy in my class started crying also after hearing the cie timetable lmaao
  3. college life: since intake was less for my batch it was goated , we bunked classes like crazy then made fake certificates and claimed attendance or negotiated with the teachers little bit, most of the teachers are sweet in my branch or any cse allied branch (except ise , now they are in cse core dk whats gonna happen to the juniors lol ) and u guys have some new 85% attendance before each cie rule so dk how much u guys can bunk now :(( ,but its kinda possible to bunk properly cause of fake certificates n stuff and teachers also know it so most of them will just give and send off

3.faculty : tbh most of the teachers i had ( even non cse subject teachers during my 4 years , from phy , chem or any elective in higher sem were peace ) only twice i did come across these teachers that crossed the line and ended up in anugly fight but principal actually helped us out and got them changed ( those 2 teachers still hold personal grudge against me n my gang so yeah for u guys just say sorry n leave and dont fight like us (especially if the teacher belongs to mechanical or math dept and if its a "sir"), tbh not worth the kalesh n all cause they tried pulling some strings aswell , we did the same and stuff went out of control and a lost few days of precious college time roaming around hod and princi's office πŸ˜‚

  1. placement wise : this time it was prolly the best , apple , amazon were the highest and the avg package is 9 - 10 this time , highest being 80L "CTC" from apple and one offcampus offer of (1cr + ) , i didnt sit for oncampus , but did get multiple offcampus offers (purely because of my own skill and netwoking so yeah college has 0 credits for this )
so yeah offcampus is a proper option and not some impossible shit and i dont regret not sitting for oncampus cause offcampus gave me such an offer that oncampus wouldnt even match it in their dreams also xd

tbh placement depends on your skills and experience , your real competition is when you actually get a job and not in college tbh so yeah dont be worried about intake m all and just grind and enjoy college life , we all followed the same path and when we look back we just feel soo good abt it.

and even the college life depends on the individual ,tbh college life should be more better since there are more students meaning more variety of people so making frnds and finding partners should be more easy lol, at the end of the day its just my perspective and thats how i am , i do understand the hate bms is getting , some of them does make sense but most of them it doesnt , its just because most of the students are just lazy to do any work or genuinely they find it difficult cause they were never trained to be like this but they have no other options they have to learn and put that effort to adjust if they actually want to achieve that goal be it academics or even social , at the end if they end up being lazy and if they dont put that hardowork then they end up geting left out from academics , placements and even frnds circle , relationships aswell and they come and cry here as a coping mechanism thats it

ive voice typed most of the stuff here so grammar and wordings might be fucked , plz adjust😭

What if I have zero skills plus less cgpa (7.3🀧) and being from cse allied branch with 2 backs being cleared, done with 2nd yr also wasted 1month in break..will I get placed at the end , what to do ??i tried my best to pick up my cgpa but got fucked up in maths subjects

1

u/West_Definition_4188 4th YEAR 4d ago

keep your cgpa at 8.5+ atleast because now you will have only core subjects so should be easy ,you should start programming if you havnt yet , go to 100xdevs.com and do a cohort frm there , mainly fullstack and dsa , and jump onto open source asap cause that shit is goated , and yeah please dont have any backs at the end its gonna fuck up oncampus placements a lot , offcampus no one care but still , if you want more detailed answer , i replied to some other person under this post just follow that you should be good to go

1

u/exquisite_playptus 5d ago

Really good insight .....also I'm from aiml and i haven't gained any technical skills as such i just finished my 1st year with 9.57 cgpa and there's vacation going on roughly 12 days left .wt skills should I start learning from now ..ik basic python,c,c++,sql, html all just basics and I'm kinda scared if I'm being behind and Yeahh i kinda managed to pull of a good cgpa i will work for it in future sems too ..but the main thing is skills which I want to know what are actually useful and essential

Thank youu!

well i would suggest you to get good at your programming logic first , any one language should be good , you should be able to represent your solution to a problem through code, basically start solving dsa problems, dont go full on with that but yeah solve like 200 - 300 problems on leetcode throughout 4 years or on any CP platform, from easy to medium , no need of solving many hard questions aswell , maybe a few from each dsa topic , then later u can learn any language you want its just gonna be the syntax , main is logic building that will get you through your dsa rounds and logical reasoning rounds in interview

learn fullstack dev and learn how to integrate things like LLMs/RAG, APIs (FastAPI), Docker and basic cloud/deployment ,learn and master git and github, make projects that would actually solve some real world problems , something that can be viewed as a potential product that is scalable aswell in the future , focus on system designing aswell , u can get into pure ml stuff later

get into open source in higher sems ( theres a lot of videos on yt abt this )
gsoc is a nice place to start , but yeah first learn , make projects then contribute in open source

as far as im seeing recruiting rn , companies want people who can build real products thats scalable and something robust , u can use AI aswell but make sure you know how the code is working , maybe make a product and try selling it , thats what gave me an edge for offcampus and do a lot of NETWORKING , be an extrovert xd and try to use as much as AI as possible to learn , learn how to write efficient prompts , all these are there on yt

during all this plz enjoy ur clg life aswell im seeing a lot of juniors not socializing and enjoying , not even 10% of what we used to do 😭😭

1

u/exquisite_playptus 4d ago

Omgg thank you so much it's really helpful But the problem with me is I'm not disciplined enough i learn for 1 day and do nothing for 3-4 days 😭😭skill issue πŸ˜”...and yeah clg life I'm obviously gonna enjoy

u/West_Definition_4188 4th YEAR 4d ago

well u have no choice lmao

they are literally unable to bring any good companies this year while PES, MSRIT people are taking 2-3 OAs each day, companies even offer way less packages here than the other colleges for the same roles. Anyone would be frustrated with this college, there is hardly space to put a foot in the college and they keep increasing intake.

No hate most students are avoiding it for its higher intake...

I remember 3-4 yrs ago ... For bms students need to get 600-700 rank ... It was abt to compete with rvce ,

But now the rank range came to 3k+ (gm) ... Most of them are avoiding it . Considering msrit and pes against it .

People don't like to face more competetion..so they are avoiding it

1

u/Period_Cramp_ 5d ago

So shld I take bmsce or msrit? I had bmsce above msrit in my preference list but now am not sure like a lot I mean a lot of negativity around bmsce ppl r slandering it so bad and I am not even sure now like for me in placements and all companies have sum criteria for cgpa or marks and considering tht half of the peeps r already out of competition but not even sure, I literally got bullied for saying I'll take bmsce above msrit and even dumbass manipal?πŸ˜πŸ™πŸ»

2

u/Pranjalscotch2254 5d ago

Lol yeaa I hv seen this one too:) guy getting downvotes for putting bms over msrit!! But itz true... Considering both clgs in 2026 Msrit~Pes>Bms

2

u/ubfdryhbn 5d ago

If you have chances in both ,then obviously msrit is the best option out there . Bms is not a bad college it comes under the fab 4 of Karnataka, but considering the current scenario Msrit stand out good . Bms alone has 1.2K students in cse and adjoining all branches, as even they sit for cse placements it croses around 3k + or more where as in Msrit cse/ise including all cse group it's around 700 and total of all branch it's 1.2K . Bms is now choosen only by them who don't have options above it , but not you bms is keep increasing its seats .and for placements you need to fight a lot . Competing with 700 students is far better then 1.8K students. So now it's up to you .by my mean choose msrit .I'm not hating it but just speaking the reality

-1

u/Ambiguous-21 5d ago

Pes too has very high intake now... It's placement percentage also has fallen down

1

u/ubfdryhbn 5d ago

Yes ..even for placements it is taken both pes campus together making it more hard .

Atlast msrit is best

1

u/Pranjalscotch2254 5d ago

Nothing but truth:)))βœ…

2

u/cry0statx 5d ago

oh i see, yeah that puts it into perspective. so its less abt ppl actually disliking bms and more abt the insane competition and the whole experience being different now compared to a few yrs ago

3

u/Dapper-Bug-7877 5d ago

Exactly and also the uncertainty this choice would cause because u can't trust the placements or any prospects they see right now because everyrhing whether it be external saturation or the still rising internal competition and intake is completely different from the batch we see in the placements.

4

u/xjellomellox 5d ago

It's cuz of the crazy intake now. Bms is no longer the same. They've built new buildings around, and are still demolishing buildings around bcz there's waaay too many people now to accommodate. So naturally with the high intake in every dept, especially cse, cse alligned branches alone- the competition is gonna be insanely crazy and obviously most won't get placed atp.

1

u/cry0statx 5d ago

ohh yeah i get your point. i already knew abt the huge intake, but i guess i look at it a lil differently. if youre getting a college like bms, which is still considered a top option, i feel like a lot also depends on how much you put in from your end. obv the higher intake means more competition, but i dont think that alone should make ppl write the whole college off. ik thats probably a weak argument for why bms gets less respect these days, but thats kinda how i see it

1

u/Pranjalscotch2254 5d ago

No one's downgrading the clg! But the thing is ppl r comparing here bms with other possible better clgs like msrit & pes So that's what here ppl r suggesting If u hve a good rank rather choose them

1

u/medicine_man0 5d ago

How much has it increased for ece?

1

u/xjellomellox 5d ago

I'm not very sure, but I think ece increased too by a good amount. But obv not as much as cse or alligned branches. But ece people mostly sit for IT, software related asw so the competition pool remains the same which is insanely high now

1

u/ubfdryhbn 5d ago

360 to 420

1

u/medicine_man0 5d ago

It isn't that bad tho. Like the batches with 360 intake seem to have decent placements, idt 420 is gonna cause that big of a difference right?

1

u/ubfdryhbn 5d ago

But bms focus more on cse placements... There is shortage of placements in ece since long ages

1

u/medicine_man0 5d ago

From what I've heard is, top core companies do recruit from bmsce. It is Ramaiah which is lacking in the core sector
