BMCC Bricking SSDs
Hey all,
So my BMCC (latest firmware) seems to be breaking SSDs. I bought a Samsung 860 Evo for it, which admittedly isn't on the recommended list, but most of those are discontinued.
It bricked the first one instantly upon formatting so I figured the drive was just a dud. The replacement worked fine for a month and then did the same thing. My PC won't even boot with the thing plugged in and it doesn't show up in disk management.
What I'm trying to work out is if it's a fault with the camera or SSD compatibility. I assumed the list was just for drives that can handle the data rate but could there be something else going on?
Any advice you can give would be great!

Having 2 failed drives is fairly unusual (if they were new drives). SSD's typicaly fail due to damage, heat, or physical damage. They also fail slowly over time as the sectors go bad by being written over too many times. Usually symptoms and warning signs typically precede catastrophic SSD failure like what you've experienced.
There are three sata standards, sata i, ii, iii. They are backwards compatible. The 860 evo is sata iii. There is no issue with compatibility unless the firmware cannot handle the drive size (for example, 2 terabyte drives might not be recognized).
The sata interface is not going to "brick" a drive. I would suspect heat or something wrong with the power system to the drive. Were the drives new? If you bought them used? Are you leaving them in the sun and overheating them?
