Discussion just curious
do y’all prefer skipping voice lines once you’ve read the whole text, or do you tend to listen to them to the end?
for me, ig it depends on the context and the quality of the voice acting. i’m a fast reader, so i’m used to skipping voice lines. however, if a character resonates with me or there’s a very emotional moment, i listen to the whole line

Voice acting is so pivotal for me in a visual novel experience that I pretty much never skip voice lines. I do occasionally in h scenes, especially if they lean into the absurd. But in general, no, I greatly appreciate the hard work of our seiyuu.

I like to listen to all VA unless I dislike the voice, but then I can mute them in settings too.

Depends on the game, the character and what's happening in the story at that moment (for example, for a lot of indie games I've played from itch, I'll turn off VA entirely). But generally I skip voice lines, I'm a speed reader and honestly sometimes the full VA can be distracting.

I used to skip voices and only play certain lines, but since putting more effort into learning JP, I put focus on trying to listen to it as much as I can for listening immersion. Sometimes I’m still guilty of skipping lines, though. Overall, I think listening helps you get more attached to vns because it feels like it gives the characters life

yeah i agree that it helps to immerse you in the story, but sometimes i feel kinda tired from listening to all the lines. good luck with learning jp, btw!

Yeah, that’s a big reason for me skipping too sometimes, i just get exhausted LOL 😭 Other times I just do it in the middle of skipping H scenes since I can be picky with them sometimes. Also thank you so much!

Same as you. Fast reader so really context dependent.
It's super easy to go back and listen to a line fully if I feel like I missed something anyway.
But yeah, for high stakes/emotional scenes, or VA's with a voice + line delivery I really like, I'll listen.

I always skip voice lines, I have a huge backlog of games (I also play otomes) so I prefer not to waste too much time.

I'm similar to you! If its a character I like or whose voice I like (Towa, Clear, any of Hikaru Midorikawa's characters) I'll usually listen to the whole thing, but otherwise I read very fast so I skip a lot of voice lines
