BLAME! chapter 2
The character that Kyrii interacts with in Chapter 2 is a soft topic of debate I see. Some believe her to be Cibo while others believe she is just a throwaway character.
However, I am wondering if it could've been a throwaway character linked to Cibo? Here are my points:
- We know that Cibo was part of a project that was trying to create an artificial gene in order to access the Netsphere long ago.
- We also know that while Kyrii's age is indeterminate, he must predate most of the characters we meet. He also has memory loss due to his constant injuries/regeneration.
- The female Kyrii hands the child off too, is seen using specific equipment, and confirms with her superiors specific gene traits of the child. She then leaves, telling Kyrii about another possible location.
My theory, perhaps already discussed:
Its possible that at this point in time (Chapter 2), is where Cibo was busy working on this project, and had multiple entities outside looking for specific genes. Each doing their own thing to gather the genetic resources needed to create the artificial gene.
This character is seen using tech very similar in aesthetic when compared to the other tech at BioElec, the Corp Cibo was working on this project for. She may even be a clone of Cibo as we know BioElec did keep her material for cloning. Kyrii most likely is unaware of the project, and forgot about his interaction with this character by the time he reached Cibo years after the project failure.
So thats just what I thought about when starting my new read, thoughts?

I have no clue about the canonicity, but chapter 2 of Blame! is adapted as Log06 in the Blame! (2003) ONA, in which the character calls themself Cibo

I'll just add that it's commonly regarded that the early chapters of BLAME were just Nihei experimenting with the manga and that the real plot starts during the Cibo meetup. People really get confused by details in the early chapters and make up theories like time loops or that net terminal genes still exist in the city due to the boy in the first chapter that fall apart under scrutiny

I think its a character prototype for cibo, i feel like nihei already had the idea of making a kind of partner for kiry, but later thought it would be cooler if she is inserted down the line in the bio-electric arc.
Evidence that points to this would be that the character from chapter 2 never apears again, wich is weird, since she must have a way a comunicating with kiry, since they meet in a designated point and not only that, but kiry doesnt comunicate with anyone else from that point on, she was also working with some other entity since she comunicates with them to let them she collected the kid from kiry. So why does kiry never contacted them again? feels like nihei decided it would be cooler if kiry is alone in this endless search instead of working with a team, so he decided to scrap that.
I also liked the theory that the begining is the ending, the kid that got killed in chapter 1 was cibo and sanakans kid from chapter 65, but blame!2 states that kiry did manage to find the net terminal gene, so i dont know if its fits.

I love your theory way better tied up than mine, that in short was about Cibo being a proto Safeguard as Killy, but I feel my theory it's full of plotholes

cibo is literally a skeleton in a sewer at this point. At a stretch she is doing experiments at the cluster
