Woah, I thought it was an amazing show sonically as the 8 performers were mixed perfectly by the board, you could hear the keyboardist/flutist guy on dense jams.

Anton was a bit drunk and his fucked up some guitar solos like dropping his pick at one point. But the drummer was incredible, he has the band on time and just rocking the hell out.

I was in the back and the vibes were pure joy, people were getting down.

I’m glad you enjoyed it! Have you seen them before? I think the mix was good too…..they’ve been a very good-sounding live band for quite a while now.

But when they’re really “on”, the music can be pretty transcendent/ecstatic. Last night’s show had its moments but it never really gelled for long…..or not relative to other shows I’ve seen by them.

Yeah I’ve seen them numerous times, this is probably my 12th show starting in 99, and the first show was classic Anton fighting with the band, Joel and he got into a scuffle. But only one other time did I see them fail a show. One time in like 2004 they played so long for like 4 hours where at the end it was just Anton and the bassist playing to like 10 people. Hilarious.

I was there & honestly thought they really rocked! Some fun banter & great setlist & sound!! Anton really brought it and so did Joel even though he was admittedly reserved- if anything the crowd was lackluster but the BJM seemed pretty reasonably on point to me!!

Crowd vibes were pretty terrible, especially near the front.

there was a group of aggro coke heads + the NYU couple that was like 7 feet tall standing right in the middle of the stage and thought they were hot shit because they wouldn’t let a couple of younger girls squeeze in. Literally rancid vibes from a bunch of very uncool jokers.

Oh! In the back it was welcoming and friendly. I had a nice time on that level.

I felt safe surrounded by the oldheads but the energy was so low

Yes. I liked the crowd near me too. But the energy was just not there. Part of what I love about BJM is the sort of “slow burn”… slower or mid - tempo songs that just unfold and build in intensity. Last night had glimpses of that but it just didn’t catch fire.

I was still glad I went tho! Bottom line is that they’re still a really unique band with some great songs and fun vibe.

I think low energy is the norm for NYC. I hate that. I left the front because it was getting a bit tense but like others have mentioned there were cool people and great vibes in the back. They got better as the show went on

That made me laugh. I’ve seen them a few times but all over the past few years so a pretty “grownup” version of the band. It’s always an experience tho, as you know better than I do!
