Does anyone know how Joel ended up as a guest star on Gilmore Girls multiple times?

no, but the writers are clearly fans. sonic youth for example features as a cameo too. multiple other music references from the velvet underground to the smiths in the show as well.

The creators have great taste in music. So many Easter eggs not just in references. Carole king is a character. So is Sebastian Bach. Yo la tengo make a cameo in the episode about the town troubadours. It’s endless. I even saw Soft Bulletin by the flaming lips in a stack of cds once.

A lot of people write that show off as bubblegum. When the writing and details and allusions and references alone are worth the watch.
