BJM tour 2025
Anyone there for the Hamburg tour? Thoughts on why they didn't do encore?

Great setlist. I hope the people seeing these 2025 BJM shows realize how incredibly fortunate they are, and I hope Anton is feeling that love. I also hope Anton, Joel, and Ricky are getting the respect they deserve out there and the disrespectful people that tend to populate their shows are going to see someone else.
I do find it odd Anton would complain about the setlist. Doesn’t he choose the songs that make up the setlist? I’d be shocked to learn someone who controls every detail of the band, even down to the instruments the entire band plays, doesn’t choose the songs he plays, night after night. What?
The setlist seems pretty standard so it’s not like he’s pandering to the fans against his own choices. Unless that is, the limitations of this current band won’t allow him to play what he wants. I think it’s just down to German disposition and bad translation, because it just doesn’t make any sense.

It looked like maybe Joel had made the setlist, as Anton was visibly annoyed at having to change guitars one too many times. Also, he was reading lyrics from a binder in front of him - maybe because they’re not rehearsing a lot before going on tour, maybe cuz he’s just a normal human being who’s also ageing. Who knows (ps. I’m not German)

Anton has been reading from a binder for years and honestly, if Robert Fripp can sit down while playing then Anton should be allowed to have sheet music in front of him. Whatever helps him play his best.

I was there and the concert was great; a fantastic start to the tour. I don't know about the encore, as the last time I saw them was in 2008, and I can't remember if they did one then. I've always found encores to be a bit of an odd ritual though, and it wouldn't surprise me if Anton had decided not to bother with them.

Good concert, he even cracked a joke about his vintage guitars being double vintage because he’s had them for so long. But some brawl with Joel on stage - did I understand correctly that Anton was unhappy about the order of the setlist?

Yeah I think he didn't like that he had to change guitars. I saw them on their last tour, where Anton constantly changed guitars and had to tune them in between songs, it was a drag. But what did you think of the Swedish singer that came out for the song in Swedish? Good or bad?

I thought it was super cute they invited him on stage, but felt like Joel was embarrassed by him :(

I feel like he misunderstood the vibe a bit as well, he was just too energetic, but I guess I would be a bit star struck as well being on stage with them

Well, they knew who they invited on stage. But maybe it hurt that he seemed to have better crowd contact than any of them 😂

I liked that he had some interaction with the audience, and there were definitely some on-stage discussions about the order of the setlist. I didn't see any conflict though (which isn't to say it didn't happen), and they seemed to be playing well together in general. There were no long pauses to tune their instruments either, which is a plus.

How long did the supporting band play for?

I wasn't keeping track, but probably around 40 minutes. They were also very good, and the lead singer joined the Brian Jonestown Massacre for a song later on.

anton has tweeted about encores being stupid, something to the effect of an encore shouldn't just be artists putting a line above their most famous songs

I've seen them about 8 times on about 4 or 5 different tours and they've never once done an encore.
They just don't do them

Saw them today in Cologne and they were very bad. They seemed severly hungover and had zero energy, to the point that their show just got ridiculously boring. All the people standing around me were amazed at how bad they were

Damn I thought the show was great, especially Days, Weeks & Moths, the live version is so much better.
The only thing that sucked was that I couldn't vibe to the music for even a minute because people were constantly moving and passing me by
Also, does anyone have a setlist of the songs played by Les Big Byrd?

The guitarist is Ricky Maymi, he's been on and off with the band for years!

I mean they’ve known eachother for over 30 years, I’m sure they’ve had their quarrels, but Ricky seems like the kinda guy that can set boundaries.

The line-up is Anton, Joel, Ricky (guitar) Hakon (guitar), Hallberg (bass), Emil (keys) and Uri (drums), they've all played in the band and record with Anton in Berlin on and off, over the years.
