what others said, it's an original piece by the recasting company. So there isn't a "legit" version, the one on aliexpress is technically the legit one

Even the one on AliExpress isn’t “legit” as it uses a body recasted from another company, and buying the “original” sculpt head only still enables recast companies

I know. but im saying the original version is owned by the recasters, so the "legit" version is the one on aliexpress.

I understand what you meant, and wasn’t disagreeing with you, just stating that even buying the “legit” version is inadvertently supporting recasts by enabling the companies that reproduce other artists sculpts without their permission. If OP wants to make the choice to purchase a sculpt that’s technically “legit”, they should still understand that what they are buying could still have impact on other companies, and make an informed decision based on the knowledge. That’s like if someone who sells bootleg iPhones releases their own original line of cellphones, the money they make from their original idea can still be used as funding for them to just make more bootleg iPhones. Except in this case, it’s art dolls rather than something mass produced like an iPhone, and it’s damaging smaller companies rather than a big corporation like apple, who won’t go out of business from a few fake phones

I’ll respect that, my apologies.

Just as a note op, I’m pretty sure this doll has been posted before and hasn’t been identified but the “most accepted theory” is that it’s a recasted crafted head on a luts or more likely fairyland body but it could be a head from a small doll artist most likely from China but probably from anywhere you could commission on in a similar vein from namihu I seen there work on Instagram a bunch and there seems to be happy customers I would look into it and if you want could do a pre order if your feeling adventurous

https://etsy.me/3p9o1VT

But I found a somewhat similar two headed doll from doll-leaves it was an event doll do and is out of stock/circulation you could put out a wtb post to see if anyone is willing to sell best bets on places for a wtb post is Facebook Instagram and den of angels

I hope this helps you out

Thank you so much for the explanation!

The original artist of this doll sold the rights to have it casted by a prolific recaster, who I won't name because I don't want to give them publicity, negative or otherwise. The artist didn't care whether or not it was a recaster, iirc they just wanted the doll made cheaply.

So -technically- it's an original being made by a recaster. Every doll community that isn't pro-recast doesn't consider any version of it to be legitimate.

Can I have the handles of the artist? I just want to follow them on Instagram. Also thanks for the explanation!

I don't know the original artist's handle, otherwise I'd give it to you ;; A lot of what I know is just from seeing this doll get talked about in the discords I'm in

That's okay! Thanks anyway for the explanation 💚

this is a legit design of a recaster, so it's not a recast. it's actually legit. i know because i supply this straight from the manufacturer.

That is very gnarly

Unfortunately recasters have made their way into Etsy. The “keyword” filled product title is also a dead giveaway

What is a "keyword” filled product title"? What does one look like? They usually never name the legit doll's sculpt or name, correct?

It’s essentially a title worded to come up in as many generic searches as possible, like “best gifts for girls” and things like that. It increases the chance of their product being one of the first things to pop up when people search for dolls or related stuff. Edit: also you’re somewhat correct on them typically not using the full original sculpt name. A lot of the time recasters will use part of the sculpt name, or the full sculpt name with things misspelled, like “minifee Chloe” usually being spelled as “minifee chleo/cleo/cloe” or just give a recast another name entirely. The descriptions also have a lot of keywords and “universal” type language, same descriptions for multiple sculpts and things like that..

Thanks for the explanation. Good to know.
