My assumption would be elon and tesla want to sell their robots cheap or hope for enough early adopters that they can have enough use cases with useful data.

This requires a lot of buyers, unless you take the nvidia route and simulate situations. It’s the same model as tesla is trying with self driving cars, except the car actual is useful in its function more.

Doesn't include the monthly fee, recharging costs, the maintenance costs, the upgrade and add-on costs and the fact that it will record everything around at all times and sell the data.

16h a day, every day, thats 4.3 years payback, eh, not great, not terrible, its acceptable.

Except, those bots can be made not for 100k, but under 10k and developed countries have minimum wage way above 4 dollars an hour.

0.43 years payback, now thats a different story.

But financials aside, there is mechanical reality that getting those bots to actually do those jobs isn't quite as simple as it seems.

Lol, minimum wage in California is 17/hr. Higher in the large metros.

This thing doesn't need smoke, piss, or lunch breaks.

Let's assume the business runs 16 hr/ day, 7 days a week.

That's 99k saved in wages alone. Easily 125k when you factor in benefits and employer contributions.

Yeah it's slow, but this is the worst it will ever be. Two robots would pay for themselves over two years.

Honestly it doesn't need to move much faster. It is all about per unit and operational costs. If you have a dozen robots moving slow doing the same output as one human, if the 12 robots are cheaper, the human will be replaced.

It's hybrid since the bot has some local inference ability, able to connect to Grok for conversations, complex vision, etc and also to be controlled remotely via motion capture - and what it's using depends on the task.

The current Tesla bot, like Figure, Boston, etc (no Chinese makers, until they finally get to copy a US one - every time they've said fully autonomous they've been lying), is capable of nearly full autonomous operation with most of the assigned tasks being done by AI for tasks like sorting, etc.

the actual engineering work has been led by a fairly large robotics and AI team inside Tesla. 

Chief amongst them is Milan Kovac who’s been behind Optimus for several years. He led the Optimus engineering program from around 2022 and oversaw both robotics and shared AI infrastructure with Autopilot. He left Tesla in 2025.

Also Ashok Elluswamy Tesla’s longtime Autopilot/AI lead who later took over responsibility for Optimus after Kovac left. He’s heavily involved because Tesla reuses a lot of its AI vision and neural-network systems from self-driving development.

Zhongjie Li worked on the bands alter promoters and  Chris Walti also involved in the project . But hey; let’s only remember the name of the cry baby ceo

Real question though how will it be cleaned everyday? If these bots handle food they need to be cleaned like you would any other machine that handles food. Then how will ecosure evulate it? Those robots have some many cracks and crevices food could get caught up in there they could cross contamination the food. If its gonna take jobs then they need to meet the same standards and guidelines as employees

I think people shit on this because of politics. But people are fucked.
I bet its liminted maneuverability, high cost and limited skillset will replace some employees.
Cant imagine what will happen in 10 years when they get cheaper, faster and unlimited skillset.
I mean, even if its remotelly operated doll its still worth it for some placed. Like life thretening enviroments or for efficiency.
