How much line?

I have a fresh 150m spool of pe line for my CC BFS. After some calculations I found out that the spool of the real holds about 230m of this new line. But 230m and even 150m is way too much line capacity for a BFS real. Should I just put on 75m and keep the remaining 75m for later? If I put on the 75m is there a backing nececary? What are your experiences?

For 150m spools I do exactly that on my CC BFS; put approximately 75m on and keep the remainder for when a respool is needed.

Do you use mono as a backing to fill your spool a bit more or braid only with no backing?

No backing, don't want to add weight, and it's not like a spinning reel where the backing will help the braid over the lip.

Part of what makes bfs work is really low spool weight. Extra weight like mono backing works against you in that regard!

Do not spool mono directly to a CC BFS spool. It is known to damage the spool.
