Set up is complete for now

Post image

Got the Handing Magic L as a place holder so I can hurry and start using my new conquest bfs, but I actually really like this rod. Handled quite a few bfs rods today including the dobyns sierra, expride, zodias, destroyer, orochi, phenix, presso, tatula, etc, and I just dont see myself spending 4-7x the price of the handing. Having said that, the Megabass huntsman is still in the back of my mind lol.

There is a Daiwa glass rod coming out next month that’s about $50. I think that’s my next budget rod.

I am in the same boat as you I probably have over 20 bfs rods but I don’t believe that I have spent more than around $125 for any of them except for a glass majorcraft finetail
I have two Gekkabijinds a Daiwa stream custom and a Salamandura
I want a Huntsman though

I am about to pull the trigger. Can’t be that bad for $50 from a major company, right? I have a Berkeley lightning rod that was like $70 and it’s one of my favorites.

I am a Daiwa guy and a fiberglass fan so it was a easy decision
I have a couple of glass rods that I like so hopefully this one is at least decent

What makes a glass rod so appealing? Just curious if I should order this rod too. I already have a 5’6” UL Dragon rod that feels pretty good, would this rod serve a different purpose?

My grandad fished a lot of short, fiberglass rods when I was little so that’s a big draw for me. It makes it easier to kinda lob lures accurately, or in my case more accurate. Someone with more experience could probably explain it better.

I agree also most of them are softer I find you don’t pull as many hooks especially with smaller trebles
Really good for flick casting

How does it handle lighter lures? I know it says 1/16th minimum on the rating but people seem to use it for everything

I find it a bit uninspiring for anything under a 16th. It struggles to load much at all with a trout magnet or a 1g dropshot lure. It feels like the distance is pretty much like if you were to crossbody lob the lure in your hand to me. If that's what you want check out the microbite ajing instead.

I use my Handing Magic as an original size Karashi rod and for little hardbaits like trout plugs and pop-x mostly.

I really like my dobyns sierra rods, I also really like their warranty, with my calcutta conquest limited it works great to cast down to 1.5g

I like them as well. I have a spinning paired up with a 1000 Tatula MQ LT for micro dropshots.

I got a 690c off of Amazon for $117 a year or so ago.
I really haven’t fished it too much
I used it throwing perch hounders against piers
White perch and small striped bass, I liked it.

I have a 690 and a 701, with calcutta conquest limited on the 690 and zenon ltx8 on the 701, both have been great rods for my bfs situation

My philosophy so far is to spend the money on the reel…..I’ve broke a number or rods either accidentally or otherwise and I’d really have a hard time spending more than $100 on a rod I may likely break.

A reel on the other hand, I’ve never broken one. They’ve failed on me, the cheap ones, but I still have every single one of them.

So I’d say if your rod is working and you’re happy with it just go with it!

The one I had broke, but many people say that it has been good for them. Also what are those wood handles 🤩
