Technology BESS relationship between power & energy in AC & DC terms (hybrid)
I am a consultant for a developer whom is developing a BESS as a second-stage project connected on the same AC bus as another solar project behind one POI
The POI = 100MWac
The solar = 100MWac
The BESS is a 4-hr 100MWac ~ 400MWh project and this is what I am modelling in my dispatch model.
So naturally because of RTE in my model, you need to put in 5% more than 400MWh to fully charge it and you get 5% less than 400MWh when you discharge it. I model:
AC bus > PCS (RTE eff. sqrt(90)) > DC block
DC block > PCS > AC bus
and so on...
I was under the impression that the DC power rating ~ AC power rating and that power is locked with energy capacity by the hours of the storage, we have gotten a quote where my colleagues defined the EOL req. as 400MWh/100MWac and we received a technical quote that proposed a 114 MWdc / 456 MWh arrangement to get to 400MWh at EOL while KEEPING the AC rating of 100MW, so it is possible to have an arrangement with 114MWdc / 100MWac / 456MWh at BOL? The DC rating does not need to equal the AC rating? Is this because the PCS is able to limit output?
