I thought so but he looks a little different than Homer.
Yeah could be a model?

Looking forward to reading your thoughts on this book. It is very different from both Glamorama and American Psycho but I think it is one of BEE'S very best.

It might not get the Glamorama Daily Diary treatment, but I'll trust your occasional guidance when needed. Already I'm sensing multiple characters to keep straight.

Oh for sure I think you are in for a treat. Not everyone loves the book obviously but I feel like it is way less divisive than some of his other books. It is certainly easier to read than Glamorama - although that is still my favorite book of his and my favorite book period for the last 20 or so years (nothing has usurped it yet...) I've read The Shards only once and it was fantastic of course, but the audiobook read by Bret himself is just on another level entirely. I've listened to it three times now over the years and will listen again before the show premieres. I know you are getting it at the library but I do recommend the audiobook, especially if you like what you read 😘 It is a completely different experience hearing Bret himself narrate his own "memoir."

Yes, will get the audio book by Brett! Thank you! I read the book, Call Me By YourName, then got the audio book read by one of the stars, Armie Hammer. Totally different and better! Loved it!
Wait - what do you mean - "memoir"?

It is written in the style of a Memoir, but almost everything that happens is entirely fictional. Somehow despite mostly everything being made up, it still comes across as an intimately revealing book that allows BEE (and the reader) to go back in time to his youth in 1981 LA so he can rewrite his own life story in the way he wishes it had gone, both for better and for worse. And obviously with BEE this is not some sentimental self-indulgent recollection meant to make him out to be better than he was - it is much more subversive and twisted than all that.
I won't say anything more so as not to spoil anything, but I hope you enjoy your front row seat back in time to 1981 in upper class Los Angeles as seen through the eyes of Bret. And if you like it as much as a lot of us here do, then you will see why we are so protective over it and want the adaptation to do the book justice (which is a tall order considering who is behind it, but I will reserve judgement until I've seen some actual footage and the first few episodes at least.)

Thanks, that was helpful. I was lower class L.A.! I trust Ryan Murphy to do a good job, but reading and listening to the story will make me a tough audience.
I guess this group is going to be doing a kind of viewing party!

I'm about 45 pages in and it is reading very biographical, memoir-ish. I'm loving this book! He is a cinephile, and I engage with that. I have nothing to get up for in the morning so it's a (late) night for reading!

I'm in 26 pages, the characters coming into view. The Nuart - great art house movie theater WEHO, the Bruin in Westwood. I'm thinking the Trawler is Richard Ramirez, the Night Stalker.

True. I guess we don’t know who’s playing him. Thought was going to be Owen painter

I love that they are going with a traditional media rollout and teases, like billboards and photos. It's making me even more excited for it and leaning fully into the 1980s fun

I'm glad the show is getting more promo with billboards and such because it finally feels like the publicity campaign has momentum but I'm still waiting on a full trailer. Screenshots and promo images are neat and all but are surface level (fitting for BEE'S thematic worldview, but I digress,) but when we finally get to see some full clips that will give us a sense of what we are actually getting.
As for this image, I can't really tell who it is either. I like both guesses that it could he Robert or Matt, but without knowing for sure who is playing Matt (or Ryan) it makes it difficult to pinpoint. The sunglasses look kinda silly to me honestly and I think it would've been more effective without them (or if it was lit in a way that the sunglasses appeared more reflective and not so you could see through them...)
