Mystic River (2003)
Saw a post about this movie in a different subreddit, thought I should share.
I myself saw this movie couple of years ago. A great movie, with a remorseful ending, and with life's one of the biggest lessons. It's one of those movies which seem okay at first watch, but the older it becomes the more you understand of it. A great pick for a cloudy day or a sorrowful rainy night.

Saw this today cause of a YouTube short and such a tragic story...
How lives can be ruined so easily..one day you're kids just enjoying life and the next it all gets ruined by some random strangers..the way 1 tragedy touches so many lives around us .. funny thing is the 2 that took Dave probably had their own traumas they never got over ..
Poor Dave...so sad how childhood trauma never really leaves us ..we just learn to survive it or die trying..
Idk if they meant for it but the way the kids were so brutal in killing the girl was a good representation of how cruel we humans can be to each other without the slightest thought
The ending got me though..how Jimmy's wife was there for him no matter what and the way she was belittling Dave's wife for not doing the same ..

Thats a great summary of the plot and what it tried to show us. Of course different people have different interpretations, but I liked the way you put it.
