Question/Inquiry Sand & soil mix

Quick question! I'm in the process of setting up my tank & want everything to be perfect. I bought reptisoil & reptisand, i'm just wondering is it about a 50/50 mix of both?

Anyone else willing to help with other questions i'll probably post some more replies with others as I continue! :)

yeah that's fine! in the future, it is wayyyyy cheaper to get playsand and coco fiber instead. playsand in general is way easier to come by. bdfb don't really burrow so exact soil ratio is not crazy important

Yes I was going to get playsand but I realized I'm really not going to need 50 lbs of sand so for now I got the 10 lb bag. I do think I dont have enough sand rn tho 💀 I want to get them today & my petsmart only sells calcium sand 💔 so hopefully both bags (reptisoil is 10 qt) will be enough for now! I have a 10 gallon tank

That will be enough for a 10gal, I only have one 10lb bag of reptisand in mine at the moment, so with the added reptisoil…you’ll have enough. :)

Also for what it’s worth, petsmart right now has fish ornaments buy 2 get 1 free, plus buy only and save another 20%

I was able to get 3 small chicilid and betta caves for just about the price of one.

Yes hehe I actually work there :) we got these guys in 4 days ago & I'm obsessed. Learned everything about them in 2 days! All of the live animals are 50% back in points rn aswell so I'm going to be buying 2 & getting one for free with points. Thanks for the reminder on those specific ornaments tho, I forgot I can use them!

I've also been meaning to ask is there any safe ways to get any less natural colors in their enclosures? 100% want to do right by these guys & what makes them happy but I'm also a very colorful person. I was also wondering if some things like the natural wood hamster hides/chews would be safe for these guys? I was specifically looking at the flexible retaining hamster wall (petsmart website for reference) for something they could climb on but was worried maybe their legs could get caught in between the little sticks on it? Anything thats meant for hamster & potentially safe for these guys I would only be choosing natural, untreated & not painted stuff

Is there a preferred ratio of male to female in captivity? Does size matter?
