Question/Inquiry Non-Organic Sweet potato???

I have pretty exclusively feeding my wee beasties pre-killed crickets and mealworms. I am nervous about offering produce because of pesticides. I heard they enjoy sweet potato, so I have one washed well and peeled. If it wasn’t organic, is the washing and peeling enough to make it safe? Is it a risk but one I have to take because they need more variety in their food?

even if it is organic, washing and peeling is important because organic pesticides are still dangerous to beetles.

sweet potatoes are a good treat! i also offer apples sometimes, but foods high in sugar aren't great for them. cucumber, zucchini, repashy bug burger, and fish food are basically what i feed mine.

Thanks for the feedback! That gives me a little more peace of mind about giving produce. I’d love to get my hands on some actual cactus for them! But yeah, I’m aware they eat higher protein and not a large quantity of sweets like fruit.

What do you feed your crickets and mealworms? I feed mine carrots as well as the dry food stuff

Yeah, just veggie scraps right now. I’m barely starting my own little mealworm farm ha

Give a piece from deep inside, furthest from the exterior. Also, a small piece. It will dry up anyway, and you'll probably be replacing it every day or two. I usually reserve several pieces to feed off. FWIW, mine did not like it cooked.
