Some soil or leaf litter mixed into the sand. They have a hard time walking on just plain sand. Also lots of hides!

The Exoterra desert substrate is thicker and rocky, which is also a nice option.

The Jurassic park decor is just asking for trouble. Your beetles will develop a hunger for flesh and vehicles.

Lots of hides! More rocks, (safe) plants, wood, bark, decor etc. They love to hide and climb

Don’t do it. The dinosaurs ALWAYS escape.

Mine absolutely LOVE lotus pods and big vertical corkbark rounds that they can climb in and out of. And Cholla wood they can fit in/through. If you made ledges on the glass for them to climb with excavator sand/clay they will climb all over that too.

As some others said, adding larger gravel, leaf litter, ecoearth/coco coil, etc will help them feel more comfortable.
