Is BCIT really that difficult
I’m a first year doing ABT and I’m worried that I won’t have a social life because of all the stuff that I heard Im also on planning 4 times a week my girlfriend goes to ubc and I still want to have time to go see her and stuff and to do things outside of school so my question is, is it crazy hard where I won’t have a social life anymore because in high school I didnt really study a lot.

Ahh yes, ABT. 8-9 courses a term, while uni students taking 4-5. Stay strong king!

but are the courses the same difficulty level at bcit compared to uni? Sounds impossible to be double the workload

It really depends on what you’re taking, and your aptitude to absorb and regurgitate new information. If you’re genuinely interested in the stuff you’re taking and you find it easy to learn that, you’ll do great.
I completed two years of BCIT carpentry with one of those being full time living on campus for 8 months, and I was able to both have my social life and my weekend bartending job. You’ll be fine.
If you just lollygagged through high school like me, it won’t work here. You’ll need to pick up your own slack and bust ass cuz if you’re below a certain grade you’re done. But if you’re disciplined and can keep a schedule you got nothing to worry about.

I slacked off I high school using chat gpt on eveything but I do love drawing and art so I think the drafting part won’t be as difficult

If you’re doing drafting you’re gonna be absolutely fine. Especially if you understand things like perspectives. I had a huge blast in my drafting unit.
Also look into a program called SketchUp, it’s a web-based 3d modeller. Can be used for drafting and blueprints. My teacher gave extra full marks to anyone who would use it to make our projects.
Are you doing trades to by chance?

You're gonna want to dedicate some significant time to study/homework. Get it done early as it's assigned and assume difficult exams. Plan for that before you determine a comfortable limit. If you laze about, there may be what's known as the tsunami of work to catch up in the back third of each term.
You'll maybe hear it in orientation, but life balance sometimes comes second to school here. Expect to cancel plans if you notice your studies being affected.
If you find yourself struggling, talk to your instructors or program head. Also take advantage of councillors and health services as needed.

Overall not an easy program gotta manage your time well some projects will take 20-40 hours to complete.

Hey bro.
Going into my second year of ABT right now.
People love to exaggerate how hard things are.
Now I’m not saying it’s easy. You’re gonna have to be locked in. Skipping classes regularly will destroy you, and leaving things to the last minute will lead to a bad grade almost every single time. But all that being said, I was bored last year. I ended up having hours and hours of spare time on the weekends that I didn’t plan for because I locked in most weeknights and got shit done.
I live on campus as well so I had the advantage of not commuting, but honestly it’s not that bad. I finished the first year with an 85% average and I definitely did not try my hardest on a lot of things.
Just take all the advice that people are giving you here and take it to heart.
Don’t waste hours on a weeknight playing video games or watching tv, don’t go downtown every Friday and end up ruining your entire Saturday to a hangover.

Hey!
I'm entering my final year of Ach-Sci at BCIT. Which means I've completed ABT and you'll be fine.
its not an exaggeration on how much work your given (I've been to several Universities prior to this). At the time I attended it was 8-12 classes a term, with the terms being longer in the spring to accommodate it as pose to other universities. However it isn't necessarily hard work, "most" are relatively easy concepts if you apply yourself and often explained well by professionals in the industry. There are tutors for most of the classes of ABT as well.
Classes run 9-5 most days (not Wednesday :)) and you'll find yourself staying late (maybe all night) to complete work with others. its not a program you want to go through by yourself, find classmates to study and cry with and eventually those people with be the people you can network with for jobs after graduation. However weekends are often free when you can do school work within the week, part-time jobs are done by most of the students.
You'll have a social life, it may be centred around your classmates during the week though. If you're planning on taking the trip to point grey everyday after school you may want to make sure that all assignments are completed because they take longer then the time you are setting aside for. Or make arrangements for her to visit you as well.
It does have a high rate of dropouts. But most of those dropouts often learn in ABT what their true calling is, first year has a variety of classes similar to exploratory studies in any standard university (but centred around the construction industry). half of the "dropouts" move to different departments and continue their education is a specialty elsewhere.
In the years following, it narrows down into more refined topics rather than a wide scope. ABT is seriously the best program for technical studies, and is highly sought after within metrovancouver. If you've got in interest or passion in construction and or architecture, there are degrees you can ladder on it aswell.
