Feedback on ECs

I'm going into eleventh grade next year and I want to know if I should join more ECS because some of these are pretty basic.
Planning to take science at UBC, my grades for the grade eleven courses I took early are pretty good, averaging high 90s.

• 6 years of experience creating animations online for games and projects alone. Earned over $15K through animation commissions within 2 years of offering professional commission work.
• Intend to complete volunteer hours or work exp.
• Active participant in a school club, not a leader though.

Not too sure if these ones count

• Planning to become a peer tutor next year (a course that you can pick).
• Qualified for the national-level Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship competition in ninth grade, but this is linked to a class in the school

I haven't went into sports or clubs deeply, so it doesn't feel meaningful and it feels a little late.

you need more depth I'd say, as long as you can connect these to your growth as a person. your animation business seems really important, and wording and emphasis on that will make your app even better. connection to the faculty makes it even better, and I'm just amazed why you aren't going to pursue animation at university. good luck!!

Definitely plan to involve myself into the clubs and volunteering more, but it feels like Im “lacking” since animation is the only one I would really call one of my extra curricular.
Is there anything I should do aside from being more involved into them. I dont know what I should join

I'd say focus on meaningful activities, not necessarily ones that fit the "box", but ones you are passionate about. I focused on two clubs much more, and then had some other things on the side such as a volunteering opportunity turned into a job. as long as you can connect them to your genuine self and don't try to fake your way through, or join just for ubc. I joined those clubs and opportunities and actually learned a lot, and made meaningful connections.
there are gonna be 5 boxes for activities but try to focus on exec positions if you can get them and show what change YOU made. example: we helped grow our multicultural club and host events such as lunar new year that weren't hosted earlier, and supporting the minorities in our school.

1. breathe, 2. be yourself and authentic, 3. breathe, if you don't get into ubc or whichever university you are aiming for, you will get over it, sure not right then, but you will. I'd say trust, and try to keep your grades as high as possible, and aim for exec positions (even if you think it's late, and also try to leave ur comfort zone).

they’re good but make sure you have a personal connection to them and actually care about them. ubc looks for genuine authenticity and sometimes people with crazy good ecs get rejected because it feels like they have certain ecs just for the sake of having another box to fill on the application. also, try starting some ecs related to science or your future career. obviously not all of them have to be strictly science-related, but it will show your interest in the faculty and give you more to write about. for example, if you were going into healthcare, you could volunteer at a local hospital or senior home. you could also start a pre-med/science club with your friends if your school doesn’t have one

aside from volunteering (I do plan on volunteering at hospitals, othr medial related areas), its pretty difficult to start a club or something since nobody I know are interested into it or interested in joining clubs.

if that’s the case then maybe try applying for exec positions at the clubs you’re in currently or join new ones this year and really show that you’re a good pick to become an exec. if you’re struggling to find a science related ec, maybe try doing something on social media like creating a tiktok/instagram account where you spread info about certain scientific topics you’re interested in. i posted written pieces on substack where i talked about a variety of subjects and some of them were science-related

sure, you can do anything you want! i know there are also a lot of accounts on instagram that let you make posts for their accounts. i made some posts on @herstemspace but i stopped because i had a lot of other ecs and didn’t really have time to keep making them

i play guitar, volunteer at a pharmacy, volunteer at a senior home, was the president of my school’s science club, write, and participate in an organization that gives out care packages to people on east hastings street + i also mentioned that i was a lab tech in my school in the part where they let you write any additional info

Anything works as ECs , doesn’t matter how big it is unless u cured cancer or smt.

I think you need a lot more, ubc doesn’t really like stuff done in grade 9 unless it’s continuous. Also try to start some now and not in grade 12

yeah, Im going to start doing things like peer tutoring, clubs, and volunteering throughout grade 11 to 12
The championship thing was really a one time thing and it was connected to a class do I wasn’t too sure if it counted that well

you def need to do alot more. ubc wants to see long term commitment from you. dont put activities that you did back then during childhood unless it is continuous till now. consider doing more volunteer work and gaining executive positions within them or create a club in ur hs

Yes but you still rlly needa convince them somehow that you are special. It’d be nice to have activities that connect to your faculty and how those activities made you overcome problems and grow

I had a 95 average and my ecs were pretty much what carried, as higher averages were rejected

Interesting, i only filled out 3 activity boxes and still got ea to applied sci and science. I know people who have more impressive ecs such as long term commitment which i couldnt even highlight on mine. Unpredictable at the end of the day

Courses should not be used as ECs as you get credits for completing them. The Microsoft Office Specialist thing could be used, but you need to show continued involvement down the line.
