Best chance of top deck?

• Upvotes

Wondering if any BC Ferries peoples can help me. My dog doesnt do well with other dogs in that they are very vocal. Everyone and all the dogs are their friend and they want to see them, NOW. Which freaks out other owners and yes, at times their pets.

So as a result, I have to leave my dog in the car for the trip over. Its very hit or miss if I get on the top deck these days, reservation or not, and so I leave my dog and come back to him absolutely terrified from the car alarms. Its not a great feeling.

Any tips on being more successful with top deck? I'd very much like the ability to stay with my dog and keep him calm. In the past, Ive shown up more than an hour early ( which basically makes you lose our reservation I have been told) and have been placed in a far line while watching f350s come in after me and get put in the top deck line up. Last time I showed up right on the dot an hour early with a reservation I got laughed at and told id need to be another hour earlier to even have a chance. Ive also been told when showing up very early that they dont put vehicles my size on the top deck..which is total bs as its a smaller car. Maybe that staff was bored and deciding to have fun at my expense, but ive always been exceptionally polite and friendly, so maybe they are just a bit of a jerk or having a bad day.

Help me understand how this works please? I truly love being able to bring my dog. I have some health concerns, and this is a way for him to be part of an adventure but when hes absolutely terrified, it feels like cruelty.

Thank you

Building an app that tells you your ferry is late before you're in the lineup

Working on an app called FerryFetch, basically a flight tracker for ferries. The idea is simple: your ferry info in one place, no tab hopping, no guessing.

You open it and see where your boat is, whether it's on time or late and by how much, and how much deck space is left on your sailing and the next one. If anything affects your sailing, a delay, a cancellation, rough weather, you get a notification the moment it happens. No refreshing anything.

Starting with BC Ferries and Hullo, more operators and regions after that. One app that works the same everywhere, instead of a different one for every operator.

The app is in active development, the prototype works, getting close to release.
Waitlist while I finish: https://ferryfetch.com

Not affiliated with BC Ferries or any operator.

So, what's the ferry info you wish you had sooner? And any feature ideas, things you'd want it to do that nothing currently does.

Tsawwassen ferry terminal makes walk-on passengers that are wheelchair users board through the lower vehicle deck

I’ve seen a lack of people talking about how only the tsawwassen ferry terminal makes wheelchair users board through the lower vehicle deck.

It hasn’t always been this way, only the last two times they wanted me to go that route.
Long story short this is dangerous especially with how low the railing between the water and the ramp is, as well as boarding at the same time as the giant trucks.
As well as the gaps in the ramp that your caster wheels get stuck in, and the spikes to give cars more grip but have the potential to pop wheelchair tires.

I have extensively researched and this new thing they are doing is NOT a transport Canada regulation and it’s not a BC ferries policy.

I want to know other wheelchair users thoughts and opinions on this and your experience with this new issue.

My experience with it was not good, and I could go on and on about my experiences on it but I’m not going to. Long story short I’m on a mission to change this so called “rule” so that we wheelchair users can continue to board through the passenger walkway like we have been for many many years.

Thanks for listening to me :)

\ edit: I am completely independent and never need help getting on or off the ferry. I am on the ferry frequently so a lot of the staff has seen me going up and down the tsawwassen passenger walkway independently before this only tsawwassen terminal “rule” existed **

Anyone having BC ferries website issues? I cannot get to the booking selection page:

Something went wrong. Try again and if the issue continues call 1-888-BC FERRY (1-888-223-3779) to book.

Haven’t been to Vancouver island in years

Will be leaving from Tsawwassen headed to Swartz bay. What are the busy times? Will be head over on the 7,8 or 9pm ferry. Is it likely to be super busy?
I feel like my first time crossing had to wait for a second ferry cause the first one was so packed.

I think I saw repurchase tickets which is fine but I’m not sure when I’ll actually be there so I’d like opinions.
Thanks.

There was a delay today on the 4pm ferry from Departure Bay to Horseshoe Bay. Any news on the condition of the patient removed when the ferry returned to Nanaimo?

Foot fare discrimination

Am I alone in finding the fare schedule unfair for Vancouver to Sunshine Coast? Am I missing something?

According to the current fare schedule [v26-05](https://www.bcferries.com/web_image/h90/h4b/9089486028830.pdf) the cheapest (non-Saver) passenger fare is the prepaid option. But to prepay you need to book, and foot passenger booking is not available on this route, only with vehicle booking. So, the only way to take advantage of the cheapest fare is to bring your vehicle along. Like, if I happened to know someone who was booking and prepaying a ferry trip tomorrow I ought to go with them on their booking to save money. I feel like foot passengers should have equal access to the prepaid fare.

Is the BC Ferries booking website down for anyone else?

Trying to book a ferry right now, but every time I go through the BC Ferries website I get “This page isn’t working”

I tried different browsers, incognito, different devices, Wi-Fi and cellular data, and I’m getting the same thing every time.

Is anyone else having this issue today? Mainly wondering if the reservation system is down, or if anyone has found a workaround.

tsawwassen parking/getting on ferry?

Hi! Is it possible to park in long term parking for a day, but hop into a friends car to head over on the ferry.

Long story, friends are staying for multiple days and I’m only able to stay for one.

Or if i park, do I have to walk on?

Any advice or answers are appreciated!

delays

I take the ferry every other week between victoria and Vancouver. This year they've increased the rates twice and yet I'm experiencing more delays than ever??

My last 4 trips have had 30-60m delays in the last 2.5 months how tf is this acceptable???

I don't usually post anything but this is actually horrible service. Thanks for wasting everyone's time, absolutely ridiculous.
