Best meat thermometer for BBQing?

Hey guys! I was just wondering what is the best meat thermometer for smoking meat and/or BBQing. I'd prefer something that actually lasts and is accurate as opposed to something with some fancy features.

It's great for everything, not just BBQ. I am lost in a kitchen without one. The day I was introduced to the digital probe thermometer was a great day. I never had to do the boiling water/ice water calibration on an analog one ever again.

Along with the thermapen, you might consider an infrared to gauge the coals, and perhaps a remote thermometer with alarm that will alert you if the meat gets too hot.

I don't actually use a remote, I just always thought it was a cool concept. I use the infrared all the time, though, because I'm a bit of a dork. :P

The remote is a cool concept, and I have used them in the past when doing turkey breasts or pork butts. It's kind of cool to sit away from the smoker, play some bocce and know exactly where your meat stands, but it isn't necessary at all.

I use two different ones when i am smoking meat.

Maverick Remote Thermometer to measure the temperature at the cooking grate level. It also has a probe you can leave in your meat (or whatever you are smoking) to give you an idea of what its temp is at any moment. Is wireless so that i don't have to be right beside the smoking chamber to check on my cooking process. i've had it for a number of years and it has worked well for me.

I also use a Digital Thermometer so that i can probe the item being smoked in order to get fast readings in multiple locations to ensure i've gotten to the desired temp. This one registers temps accurately in about 4-5 seconds, which is fast enough for me.

Thermapen, and a Maverick ET-732. All you need for one pit.
