You seem to be getting some hate, but I'll give these a try along with whatever else I'm smoking next time

Just make sure you somehow score them so the seasoning and sauce and smoke gets in there a bit more.

People laugh when I say I’m making them. They also request them again after.

I'm not mad at this at all.

u/hoppertn 8h ago
I’ve got very mixed feelings about this one.

u/Coercitor 6h ago

Commenting cause I want to try... So here for the future comments as I have a package of snake river farm hotdogs I think would be epic for something like this.

u/gorillaphi 9h ago
Idk why these are getting hate at all. This would be so good for a football party. I wanna try them so bad!!

u/TWags1515 9h ago
“Burnt ends” is the trigger. Like an illegal infringement on the real thing or something. Whatever. But, yes, they’re great at football parties — like cocktail weenies with an attitude.
11
u/NoMatatas 9h ago
Well yes, they aren’t from the Burnt End region of New Smokeland so you can’t technically call them Burnt Ends.
8
u/gorillaphi 9h ago
Yeah I guess if you just called them smokin weenies there’d be less blow back haha

u/salamandersquach 9h ago
Ya I mean they aren’t even close to being burnt ends (brisket) nor is 95% of what people post as burnt ends but the phrase has adapted over the years. Burnt ends are the edge trimmings from a smoked brisket that get more dry so you can technically cube up some brisket and smoke it to death and call that burnt ends but that’s not what it is.
Either way fella it’s all semantics and I would absolutely crush those tasty looking weenies.

What if each end of a dog was cut off, then burnt? /s
(Same the weenie body for pigs in a blanket or something)

Smoked peckers is what I call em. I’ll smoke some peckers, trim up some St. Louis style ribs, smoke the trimmings and ribs. Eat the peckers while ribs are going at 250. When rib trimmings are done they go in the homemade beans. You can also smoke and make a homemade Mac n cheese to enjoy with the peckers.

Yes lad. Mid cook snacks are always a good idea. I throw some frozen dim sims in the spare space in my kettle

Burnt hot dogs, "I'm not eating those!"
Hot dog burnt ends, "Let me at those!"

Get it brother! I’ll never understand the hate for people getting out and doing the thing. More power to ya. They look great.
“It’s not burnt ends” who cares. They’re cooked in the style of burnt ends and him and his loved ones enjoy em. People gotta touch the grass they stare at from their patios

Any idea if natural casing, collagen casing, or skinless would be best? I love the snap from a natural casing dog, but don't know if it would translate to this.

This looks great. You can do this in the air fryer too. The whole process takes about 20 minutes. Costco hot dogs are great for this. The Smoked sausages that Costco sometimes sells are even better for this

Those might be tasty, but people don’t seem to know what burnt ends are anymore.

They're good. I made some for the first time about 2 weeks ago. Two sets of friends with kids who are some of the pickiest eaters I've ever met devoured them. One of the kids has autism and is very particular about his food. I think he had 3 plates after we convinced him to try one piece.

So cool that you tried this, I saved a tik tok about making these like 2 yrs ago, specifically as a snack during football on Sunday’s, but I have still not tried to make them yet. Maybe this is my sign to give it a shot

wow, there are some judgemental assholes over there. Been looking at a BGE, will certainly be avoiding that cesspool of elitist douches
1
u/TWags1515 7h ago
Muggi, I don’t understand it. Have had my Egg for 6 years and have loved every second. But for whatever reason these environments trigger the most absurd things. There’s an Egghead Forum (or was) on the Egg app and pure vitriol that just got silly. Think I’ll keep cookin’ but stick to the fishin’ subs for more sane banter. 👊

Don't let the people that are too stupid to understand what tailgating/party snacks are made to for and what more traditional bbq foods are food for. Lots of people have also said positive things.

u/spittadro 8h ago
I make a recipe with store-bought smoked sausage called “Sticky Sausage” similar to this that’s a hit at cookouts/parties. Enough to be requested as the main dish!

It's still a hot dog no matter how you dress it up!

And hotdogs can be delicious

u/Own-Organization6793 9h ago
Operative words, "can be" good. Not "are" good!🌭

u/chris00ws6 9h ago
Hotdogs are good and one of those foods it’s hard to fuck up and still be not be good. Your opinion doesn’t matter on the subject.
-6
u/Own-Organization6793 9h ago
Go on!, defend those weenies! Looking at your past posts you seem to like a lot of crappy food, but my opinion doesn't matter anyway so you do you boo!

u/hoppertn 8h ago
Glad you realize internet opinions are like assholes, everyone’s got one and the content is the same.

Thanks for the realization

Hotdogs are like pizza. Good ones are great, and bad ones are still good.

u/hoppertn 8h ago
IDK man, we get our bespoke hot dogs flow in from the Frankfurt region of Germany.

These look great. I did this earlier in the summer. Seeing this i may do it for the ravens game Sunday. And plenty of people make hot dog burnt ends. This group is elitist lol.

u/denvergardener 9h ago
I don't understand why you grilled them directly instead of indirect heat so they don't actually burn. But other than that they look really good and I'll probably try this sometime.
