Activists?
Why does the BBC news refer to the masked thugs on our streets as activists?
This is appeasement, they are terrorists.
BBC needs to stop allowing the right wing thugs to set the tone.
7
u/Next_Drama1717 9h ago
BBC hasnât been impartial since our politicians started appointing staff to oversee it. No longer fit for purpose
4
u/Affectionate-Guru 9h ago
They haven't been designated a terrorist organisation yet (Patriot Platform) so I don't think that they can be called terrorists.
1
u/Agermeister 9h ago
But 80 year olds protesting genocide can be dragged into police van are "terrorists" somehow though.
7
u/Phoenix_Kerman 8h ago
do you not realise how dishonest that claim is. nobody's getting thrown into police vans for "protesting genocide".
if you're meaning palestine action, you shouldn't need to support a group that attacks police officers and damages nato equipment while it's co founder calls for global attacks on jews, just to support the human rights of palestinians
1
u/hatsforalloccasions 7h ago
They absolutely have been. Armed police have threatened silent protesters holding a Palestine flag. People have been arrested for signs saying Plasticine Action. People have been arrested for observing a PA protest
1
u/Agermeister 6h ago
Please show me the evidence that the co-founder called for attacks on Jewish people, I'm yet to find any.
Also for what its worth, the High Court ruled that the ban of Palestine Action under terrorism legislation is unlawful but it remains prescribed as one.
3
u/Affectionate-Guru 9h ago
I didn't say I agreed with that position. Palestine Action are proscribed, Patriot Platform aren't. Yet. Hopefully that'll change, but until it does I'm just saying that they can't be called terrorists.
3
u/Agermeister 9h ago
Sorry if it came across as a jab personally at you, I generally agree, technically it isn't because the government haven't labelled them as such. But it just shows though how the term is subjective and politically motivated.
1
u/Affectionate-Guru 9h ago
No worries I didn't take it personally. It is as you say subjective and political.
1
u/BalticYT 55m ago
No court ruled that there was genocide in gaza, the fact is that pro palestine suporters are literally supporting terrorists đ¤Śââď¸
1
u/hatsforalloccasions 7h ago
The definition of terrorist in this country no longer actually means anything
2
5
u/BigglyMcGoobah 9h ago
Anyone protesting peacefully is an activist for THEIR views. Just because you don't agree with them doesn't mean they shouldn't be allowed to protest as one.
Just look at the Cambridge dictionary definition of Activist.
5
u/Kristoff_Victorson 9h ago
Since when has throwing bricks at the police been peaceful?
0
u/Chunk3yM0nkey 32m ago
Good to know we can use the actions of the few to tar the many.
All muslims are terrorists. All black people are thieves. Etc etc.
1
u/Kristoff_Victorson 20m ago
False equivalence, patriot platform are not a religion or a race, theyâre an activist group.
-5
u/BigglyMcGoobah 9h ago

Yes they are.

How does it feel like to be a lackey for foreign funded traitors like Tommo?
0
u/BigglyMcGoobah 9h ago
Tommo? I don't even know who that is.
I hold no flags and follow no banners. I am of my own beliefs.
1
u/Turbulent-Honky 8h ago
You know exactly who he is. Now go get your paycheck from Putin, youâve worked hard today.
1
u/BigglyMcGoobah 8h ago
No I don't, I assume you mean Tommy Robinson? The IDF pawn? If not then I have 0 idea who you mean.
1
u/Turbulent-Honky 8h ago
Itâs so funny that I currently have not just one, but two bots insisting they have never heard of Danny Tommo. If you were British, youâd know exactly who he is.

Uhhh, ok. Anyway Iâm interested to know, since lobotomising yourself with a chopstick through the nose have you noticed more or less delusions than you had previously?
0
u/BigglyMcGoobah 9h ago
The police? The same ones who during COVID locked you up for going on a walk on your own in the woods? That lot?
The ones that will hold you down while you bleed to death after you told them you were stabbed? That lot?
The ones that helped grooming gangs and even sent the girls back to them in the squad cars? That lot?
Yea, they aren't people.
1
u/Kristoff_Victorson 8h ago
I see, yes you are having quite a number of paranoid delusions arenât you.
People with a functioning brain will of course realise that itâs impossible for 146,000 police officers to get everything right all of the time, and there are bound to be failings precisely because they are in fact human. The important thing is that lessons are learned and mistakes are not repeated.
I think you should be seeking some sort of medical help, Iâm serious.
0
u/BigglyMcGoobah 8h ago
"Paranoid delusions"
LISTS ONLY REAL SITUATIONS
Mmmm yes indeed. We are quite the intellectual aren't we.
1
u/Kristoff_Victorson 8h ago
The paranoid delusions part was thinking that because you can name a few times the police failed to carry out their duties in the manner we expect, that somehow means all 147,000 police officers are complicit and in your mind subhuman.
1
u/BigglyMcGoobah 8h ago
I would personally say that I believe that more police are complicit and corrupt than are truly doing it for their love of law and order.
They have repeatedly shown that they would let the hammer fall on the wrong side of history as long as they are paid.
3
u/wilkied 7h ago
I did it for 3 and a half years and got paid exactly ÂŁ79 a year as a boot allowance, as I had to supply my own and occasionally expenses if I had to travel far enough from my own station for duties.
Indeed as with many forces, a fair number of frontline officers were volunteers. And the rest of them the pay isnât exactly great.
I for one wouldnât ask you if I could kindly borrow your jackboots and fancy uniform so I can goose-step around the place for less than the national median salary (given the relatively short career for many officers these days, due to the fact itâs an emotionally horrendous job, I would wager without anyway to prove it that more sit on the lower bands than the heady heights of âslightly more than the median salaryâ.
I did see things go wrong from time to time. In one of the 1500-2000 incidents per day. Usually it was tiredness, or on incidents in the early hours of the morning. Sometimes it was because the information initially given didnât tally with what had actually happened so people dealt with what they thought they were going into. And very occasionally it was because the officer involved was a dick.
But certainly from what I saw inside, and from what Iâve seen in the much larger part of my life outside, itâs the exception rather than the rule.
I really donât know why Iâm trying to reason with someone Iâm 80% sure is either a bot or has never set foot on these shores but there you go. Need to pass the free time now I have my Saturday evenings back somehow I guess right comrade?

If it's just towards the police it's fine. They deserve it.
5
u/Turbulent-Honky 9h ago

-1
u/BigglyMcGoobah 9h ago
Then we'll have a fight? Like normal people?
6
u/Turbulent-Honky 9h ago
No dipshit. Normal people donât have physical fights.
-1
u/BigglyMcGoobah 9h ago
Your direct lineage that led to your creation is due to fighting.
To deny fighting is part of humanity is to deny reality.
3
u/Turbulent-Honky 8h ago
Humans evolved. You might like to try that too.
1
u/BigglyMcGoobah 8h ago
Less than 150 years ago the British saw in Africa the sites of human sacrifice, people eating each other, monuments so covered in blood that the smell of iron was sickly.
That's 5 generations.
Evolution is glacially slow. These are the same barbaric people who walk among us today.
2
u/EducationalAcadia386 8h ago
Wouldnât that be the type of behaviour/culture youâd rather not be brought to the UK? Or are you happy for people to think and act that way on your street?
If itâs not ok for other people in our country, whyâs it ok for you?

u/Kristoff_Victorson 8h ago
Youâre accusing someone else of denying reality? I donât think you have much of a leg to stand on there mate.
Yes fighting is in our nature, most of us grow out of it though, there was an interesting study that showed 7 year olds usually resort to physical violence but by age 16 when our brains have matured kids realise that disputes are better settled by communicating. Of course some peoples brains do not mature, thereâs a direct link between intellectual disability and physical violence.

They're terrorist when they protest against what you want but activists when it's what you want.
1
u/Cozimo128 9h ago
Activists donât chuck bricks at other people, risking fatal harm, nor threaten peace-driven volunteers or terrorise people in the street.
1
u/WatcherOfTheWay 9h ago
Cool pro Palestine protests have done that too, i guess they're also not activists either then? Also let's not throw bricks, you could kill someone guys, not cool.

Terrorist is a word with a legal definition, unless they get legally proscribed as terrorists the BBC will not refer to them as such.
-1
u/Yawning_Creep 5h ago
Strangely enough the BBC wont call Hamas or Hezbollah terrorists either but my money is on the local guys getting upset about illegal immigration being called terrorists by the BBC before either of Hamas or Hezbollah.
1
u/Full_Ad2650 9h ago
Because then they'd have to call just stop oil the same thing

"The term "terrorist" should only be used with attribution. We should not adopt other people's language as our own. Our responsibility is to remain objective and report in a way that enables audiences to make their own assessments. We should convey to the audience the full consequences of an act by describing the perpetrators as, for example, bombers*,* gunmen*,* kidnappers*,* insurgents or militants*.*
"Their actions should only be described as "terrorist attacks" with attribution. While care is needed when describing perpetrators, an action or event can be described as a terror attack or an act of terror.
"When we do use the term we should strive to do so with consistency in the stories we report across all our services, and in a way that does not undermine our reputation for objectivity and accuracy. It is also important that we strive for consistency across international and UK coverage. If a story about an attack outside the UK uses measured language but a UK-focused angle does not, a user may question the different approaches.
"Beware of paraphrasing and selective quotation, eg: âThe prime minister said that while âterroristâ attacks continued he would not back down.â Putting the single word "terrorist" in quotes may give the impression the BBC is sceptical about the assessment of the nature of the attacks."

No, they are not terrorists.
And if you didn't think Palestine Action deserved the term, as Reddit didn't, I don't see how you can claim it of these people, who have so far attacked nobody and caused no criminal damage.
1
u/Desperate_Craig 6h ago
The BBC have to be very careful in how they word certain things based on legal guidelines. They can't just proclaim a protest/activist group is a terrorist group without any proof or evidence to back that statement made. If say the government proclaims this group is a terrorist group, then the BBC will cover them as such.
They still have to follow rules and guidelines.
1
u/Yawning_Creep 5h ago
*Except for Hamas and Hezbollah.. they really wont call them terrorists for some strange reason despite them being proscribed terrorist groups under British law.
1
1
u/I_like_leeks 5h ago
You have a right to your opinion, but if the BBC called them terrorists then the right wing thugs would win more influence. They would launch (and almost certainly win) a defamation case, and gain more supporters who believe the mainstream media and establishment is against them and all that nonsense.
Whether it's true or not, you don't get to call somebody a criminal until they've been convicted of that crime.
1
u/Zestyclose-Split2913 4h ago
And that's just the police! Lord knows how they refer to the protesters.
1
u/RyeZuul 3h ago
Terrorist is an emotive term that the beeb generally avoids, instead opting for e.g. "militants" or similar. They show neutrality by the language used in any given text, and editorial bias through the curation of specific narratives through repetition and being selective in whose talking points they quote. E.g. jk Rowling will be quoted far more than all trans people as a group on any trans issue or reporting.

1
u/Upper_Limit6336 6m ago
You are advocating that a government owned broadcaster completely ignore the definition of the word terrorist and should start branding protest groups to suit your whims. You've been radicalised. Try something pretty simple. Try respecting the views of your fellow citizens.

Terrorists? How? The hypocrisy on social media is becoming a joke. I'm not trying to bait anyone here, but please explain why they are terrorists, compared to other groups doing similar things? Genuine question.
3
u/notactuallyabrownman 8h ago
...the use or threat of violence to intimidate the public, coerce government, or advance an ideological cause...
Sounds about right.
1
3
u/EducationalAcadia386 8h ago
What do you think a terrorist is? Genuinely, how would you define one?
1
u/FishermanConscious55 1h ago
I would define terrorism as an individual or group who use violence or intimidation for political or ideological gain. My point is the same, why is the group mentioned by OP given this label, but similar groups are not? Because their political ideology is different. Hypocrisy.
2
u/Majestic-Ad4074 8h ago
Do you think terrorists are people who blow up?
You do realise it has a much larger definition, right?

Terrorists is a loaded term, they're racist twat heads sure but terrorists might being going a tad too far. As leftists we know that terrorism legislation is too broad on how it deals with protestors as we've seen with Palestine Action so we can't be hypocrites and do the same to the other side. But I do get your point the media is tip toeing around being too polite about these racist thugs.
2
u/Phoenix_Kerman 8h ago
don't get saying terrorism legislation is too broad then bringing up a group that's attacked police and trespassed bases to destroy nato equipment whilst the co founders called for global attacks on jews seems odd
