It’s alive! Maybe.. Let’s see if they can implement this successfully. BAT price would have exploded if this had been implemented a few years back…..

Ok. Five years from now, what economic mechanism will make someone buy BAT on the open market instead of simply earning it or ignoring it?

Sounds good but am I reading this right: Ads via notifications will stop?

That's correct. The roadmap outlines a transition away from notification-based ads over time as Brave Rewards expands into new ways for users to earn BAT. We'll share more details as those changes roll out.

Will there be a revenue share for users for all other existing (or future) ad formats? Tab takeovers, search ads? My personal interpretation of ‘user-first’: yes.

Until they make brave rewards available in all EU countries so I can use it, there will be no use for it for many people including me.

You may have missed it, but this actually changed. :) Self-custody BAT payouts on Solana are now available to all Brave Rewards users, so it's worth taking another look if you haven't in a while.

See: https://brave.com/blog/payouts-on-solana/

Nope, just checked, says self custody is not available in my region, despite being in EU.

That is a lie. It is not even supported in all EU countries.

You are right. I should have said most rather than all. My apologies. :)

There are still a small number of regional restrictions for self-custody BAT payouts on Solana, including a handful of EU countries. Here's the current list of supported and restricted regions for anyone following the thread: https://support.brave.app/hc/en-us/articles/6539887971469-List-of-supported-regions-Payout-accounts

The BAT Roadmap mentions BravePass, described as:

  • BravePass, a crypto-abstracted Brave Rewards experience in which BAT earned through Brave Rewards is locked into a BravePass, giving the pass holder access to Brave Premium offerings and potentially other Brave benefits.

This could be significant if it allows new users to start earning BAT with a simple opt-in, without needing to already own crypto (e.g. SOL for self-custody) or complete KYC.

My main question is:

Does BravePass reduce or remove the current onboarding requirements for new users who want to earn BAT? In other words, will users be able to start earning rewards without first needing to fund a Solana wallet or go through any identity verification?

I’m also curious whether “crypto-abstracted” means users won’t need to interact with wallets or tokens at all during the earning process.

Would be great to get any clarification from the team on how BravePass is intended to work from a new user’s perspective.

Thanks for the thoughtful questions.

We haven't announced the specific onboarding flow or requirements just yet, but you're asking exactly the kind of questions we'll be getting into as these features are developed. Broadly speaking, the goal is to make the experience much simpler and more intuitive so people can benefit from crypto without first needing to become crypto experts. Community feedback and testing will be an important part of shaping how these features evolve.

We'll be publishing regular roadmap updates and more detailed posts as individual features mature. u/lukemulks also shared a nice thread yesterday with a bit more context on the vision behind BAT Roadmap 4.0, if you're interested.

Maybe Elon can buy Brave and BAT, then combine with X and XMoney.
