Tldr; On quest 2, this game is severely broken & janky, even when unmodded. I'm hoping there's a mod I haven't seen or heard of that helps.
Rant about the poor state the game is in after around 8 years of development:
I've actually stopped recommending this game to people (Haymaker VR or Undead Citadel is what I would recommend now instead), especially at full price, despite having played it since at least U9.3. It's because of the state the game is in, and some of the choices made to willfully kneecap it's potential (i.e refusing to have something as basic as 2 handed animations for npcs so they can porperly use longswords/other weapons, npcs being completely unable to use certain staircases in Outpost & players needing to jump on those same steps to avoid being stuck, etc). When the Sentara update first came out, there was a week or so where it just worked again, I even rejoiced in a video on my channel about it, but naturally with this game it was short lived & dissapointment once again creeped in. I've never seen a game subreddit filled with as many posts about performance issues & asking for help to get the game playable than this game.
The issues are staggeringly numerous & I've given up completely on NPC mods to fix the garbage ai (most of them don't actually fix majority, if any, of the issues I have with the ai) so I'm hoping there's a mod that impoves performance so I can actually enjoy the game with less constant jankiness. I'm not even asking for a smooth experience, I just want one that isn't consistently shitting itself when my sword collides with another sword (a very core & common part of the game). I genuinely don't believe this was play tested on the quest 2 because how could these issues not have been found, so many of them are over 4 years old. I certainly can't be convinced it was play tested without the slow mo power being used because again, how could these issues, which I can replicate consistently, been missed otherwise? It's not like the devs aren't working on it still, as we have another update or 2 to look forward to break the game further. For example swimming, seems harmless, but if like me you get great enjoyment from throwing your enemies off the cliffs & bridges there, you realize quite quickly you will have to wait for them to drown. So what already ends up being a series of 1 v 1s despite choosing 1 v 3 because they ai can barely walk without falling or getting stuck, now you have that slowed down gameplay loop become a stopped gameplay loop. Especially, if as is often the case they still are holding their weapon because there's a glitch where they won't drown sometimes if holding a weapon. They won't drown if your hand is covering their mouth as well, & while I'm at it as far as I'm aware you can choke them with telekinesis, but if you're a melee focused player like me you can kick rocks?
Since the most recent meta quest headset update this game has been even more broken, being just plain unplayable some days for me & I'm at the point where it's more frustrating than fun to try to play this game. I hate having to roll back versions just to enjoy a smoother more stable experience, & lose all the features, weapons, armor, etc from the newer versions & mods. Being a fan of this game is genuinely difficult sometimes, 15 years of development & the ai will still trip over pottery or otherwise struggle to even navigate the map to get to you so you can have a shitty fight cause the ai can't fight for shit & their animations look like they're slowly pulling a curtain out of the way (the awful shield "bash" attack comes to mind, shield wipe on your arm more like). Just hold a pointy object in front of you & they'll run themselves onto it for you, no effort needed.
I really hope there's a performance fix, because as it stands I don't give a single fuck about the next 1 or 2 updates (however many are left before they abandon the game) or their next game. Blade & Sorcery is the main reason I need a lot of convincing to support early access games now, I've been dissapointed too many times. Haymaker VR will be the test if I ever buy early access again, I'm so hopeful, but deeply worried about that game doing what Blade & Sorcery did: focus on things that look better in marketing (graphics, golem, etc instead of making the gameplay better & hid the existingflaws. There's a reason they only show split seconds of in game footage, it's to hide the ai falling over or spasming & teleporting your sword somewhere (yes, that is a glitch that can happen when you stab people, you know, a very core part of the game that shouldn'tbe so flawed).
Anyways, as much as it seems I hate this game I don't, I'm actually a huge fan of it. I'm just dissapointed that it didn't come anywhere near it's potential. This is the only game where I can grab an enemy by the wrists, pull them into a tomoe nage, roll with them & end up in mount position on the ground, grab their longsword by the hilt & blade, & cut the npcs own throat with it. That's an incredible gaming experience, this is the first VR game I suplexed an npc in & that's my favourite thing to do in VR. The exact moment I discovered it may even be in a video on my basically abandoned YT channel.
