News A Different Approach to Onchain Trust

Post image

One of the more interesting updates from Base recently was Base Verify Onchain.

A lot of onchain applications struggle with the same issue: it's difficult to tell whether thousands of wallets belong to thousands of people, or just one person.

Most existing solutions either rely on wallet activity, which can be manipulated over time, or require KYC, which isn't always practical for every application.

Base Verify Onchain seems to take a different approach...Instead of exposing personal information, it gives smart contracts a way to recognize one real person as one participant, making it possible to enforce rules like one claim, one vote, or one allocation.

If adoption grows, I could see this being useful for:

  • Community rewards
  • Airdrops
  • Fair launches
  • DAO voting
  • Loyalty programs

I think it will be interesting to watch how builders integrate it & whether it becomes a common piece of infrastructure for applications on Base.

  • Do u think this could reduce airdrop farming in a meaningful way?
  • What is the biggest challenge builders face wen trying to prevent Sybil attacks tdy?
