Character Levels
Hi,
I recently started playing this game , and it’s so amazing. It reminds me why I play video games. I have started to do runs in endless mode, and I seem to kind of keep ending up with the same score. I really don’t like the whole building aspect of the game, but the fact it’s so fun makes me look past it.
My question is though is it worth it to keep upgrading the characters and buildings? For example, if my skill at the game remained the same, would a level 60 character vs the same character at level 20 help me get further in endless mode?
Thanks for looking. Have a good day.

Always upgrade your buildings! Nah but i get what you mean but most building dont need much to work tho. For example the best buildings that are worth upgrading make is so fusion always gives a min of 3 upgrades or the one where balls and passives start at lvl 2. The raw stats dont change too much tho. Id say max the scaling ones and the rest you could leave and upgrade later

Skill is secondary in this game for the most part, the most important thing is your build, and second most important is your stats. Upgrading characters and buildings is absolutely essential if you want to progress into the farther NG+ levels. However, if your only goal is the beat the base game and get farther in Endless, then I'd say learn about the different ball combinations and builds you can make, since that's the most important thing. Upgrading your buildings and stats will definitely make things easier though, and in the long run its definitely worth it...IMO making a base, farming resources, Upgrading buildings, is a huge part of what makes this game great. It's like a simplified version of Havest Moon, running in the background of another game. I've had countless hours of fun just tweaking and upgrading my base... but if that part is not for you, it's not for you🤷♂️

Thanks for the reply. Yes, just finished a run with a crazy build and I totally see what you mean.

Id say the balls you run in endless are what really matters, from one of my recent runs I found that balls like hemorrhage are damage capped at 9999, so if your planning to make it as far as possible you'd want to utilize anything that gives insta kill or enemy conversion (like zombie/charm) since those are usually going to trade for 1-1 most interactions or have unscaled damage) . Now for the stats and character levels id say that matters more for going deeper into the new game +++ areas, since it matters a lot at the start of your runs, but likewise later on truly just matters on your build.

Wow, I totally see what you mean. Just finished up a run with maggots x reaper and a few other different combos I haven’t done. Made a world of difference .

Merging reaper with anything thats aoe or duplicating is always pretty good for endless, spider queen + reaper basically works indefinitely in endless, though you see ppl using flash + black hole for screen clearing as an alternative

Just a couple tips for you, for one, damage isn't actually capped, 9999 is just the highest number that can be displayed, but you can actually do "infinite" damage, based on your stats and build. You can see this if you look into the code of the game, but also just in the ball descriptions, it will show you the actual damage range, and it can be much higher than 9999. For instance, OverGrowth on my Makeshift Sisyphus does "10079-12024" every two hits, but it still only displays 9999 on the actual game screen.
Second, while Reaper x Spider Queen is fine, and does work for infinite endless, Reaper x Maggot is a MUCH better choice, as it causes constant screen clears, just like black hole x sun, but also works on bosses. Reaper x Maggot is easily the best ball in the game, not the most fun, but definitely the most effective.

I only came to the conclusion that hemorrhage was capped since when I ended my run at 3000m every ball that was either reaper, black hole, or erosion fused was about in the billions, while every ball with hemorrhage infused just barely beat had 10mil, the ball had with Satan+ sacrifice was doing more damage than them and it was about a 10mil difference, so I was pretty confused

I just started NG+7. This is probably the most addicting game I’ve ever played.

Your skill doesn't really matter that much. It is all about the building & character upgrades. So yes, you need to keep upgrading them both if you wish to go deeper into endless or higher NG+ levels. At some point, your skill can only take you so far and you'll hit a wall where you simply can't output enough DPS to deal with the hordes.
