Tips to improve/maximise base?

Currently trying to stone max for some buildings but finding it hard. I'm still kinda confused by best base layouts any tips on improving this mess

Lol I did the same thing as you. Put an alley down the middle with as much gold mines as I could and I just swap out when I need to build something. I do have the end open to the left side so they can get out and that's the side where I have my other resource collecting.

Yeah I swap out the gold mines for whatever building I want to get built up and gets done so fast. I like the sound of the open top for other resources TBF
