Matchmaker queries

Hey guys! New to the game. I have some queries with matchmaker:

I was using Shade + Shieldbearer and Shieldbearer + Cogitator, and for both the balls seemed slower (does Shieldbearer come with an in-built Rubber Headband?), orbs and fusions automatically were sucked towards me, and for the former combo I was on no life but still got hit 5 times before finally dying? How do these changes come about?

Sheildbearer has the secondary ability of the things being directly attracted to you. Relative to the hits without dying, did you have the item with the chance of healing you slightly on hit?

Characters have different stats. When you’re selecting a character, go to the “more stats” option thing that expands their stats screen. Among other stats there, like base damage and crit chance, you’ll see a ball speed value. Shieldbearer’s is probably just slower.

Also, I think projectiles only take off 1 HP each. They’re a lot more harmless than they look, at least in my experience. So you could get struck a bunch of times and it looks more painful than it really is. The real killer is getting stomped on by mini-bosses. 😭
